Just curious; are Tamron (i think) lenses any good or is it just a good idea to start with the standard 18 55 when I buy an slr next week?

Hmm - I used a Tamron AF28-80mm F/3.5-5.6 instead of my 15-85 mm kit lens and I liked it a lot more. You could zoom it a lot farther with the one I had. I'd say they are decent lenses, but I've only had one lens.

lol I have never heard of that 15-85 kit lens before is it new? xD
I am fairly sure that most of the lenses made by Tamron are better than the EF-S 18-55 II lens BUT I have also read in another forum that the IS version of the Canon kit 18-55 lens is quite sharp.

The Canon 15 - 55 IS is better than the version without IS. I also read that somewhere. I think it is good enough for starters. But the sigma 10 - 20 <3.

hmm 15-55 IS.... It's like all of the sudden Canon has release a bunch of new lenses or something hahah nah I am just bugging you guys

Yerah I really love the Sigma 10-20!!!! but the downside is it's extremely short maximum focal length

Oh. I was thinking of using it as a landscape and cityscape lens, but I can hear it is not good at stuff like that ?

Basically you would need two lenses for general cityscape photos and especially if you want to capture people or smaller objects or what to get nice bokeh. I believe if you have money you should get two bodies, one with the Sigma lens and the other using ef 24-105 f/4L IS... which reminds me that I really need to find a better job sooooooon! lol

I am going to buy a better body and the 300mm 4L from Canon. Maybe something similar. I hate to shift lenses all the time. xD

haha hmm I have heard that the ef 70-200 f/2.8 IS + Canon extender 1.4x are also a very good combination. I am sure most of the time you wouldn't need the extender to boost focal length then you would have one of the best 70-200 lens out there but as usual it's not cheap lol. I am sure you can find a used 40D quite cheap unless you want to pay more for the inferior 50D
