Ok! I finally figured out a way to unscrew those stupid tiny screws that hold the front element together with the lens body. I brought the whole lens with me to work earlier and let it sit in a -30 degrees freezer there for a few hours and then it was very easy to unscrew those little buggers lol. Anyway here are the test shots I took earlier. The only downside is that you can't autofocus but it's no biggy for me at least and I think all of those EF 35-80 f/4-5.6 could be converted to macro lenses. Mine is EF 35-80 f/4-5.6 II and I also have an USM version which I will keep in case the other breaks ^^

Here is a link to more pics taken by that lens: http://www.pbase.com/jabtas/canon_3580

The front element of that lens I removed:

Macro shot of my walk around lens. Didn't know it's so dirty :(

and my "new" macro lens

OH! If you want to put a filter on and protect the lens from dust you would have to break the glass on the front element and just get a 52mm filter to protect the lens :)

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy a macro lens?

I don't want to sound snippy or anything but don't you know how expensive those macro lenses are? :p
I bought this converted lens for 40 dollars with a film slr and another 50 bucks for the USM version with another film slr... and the cheapest 1:1 lifesize Canon macro lens is around 700 bucks.
Right now my priority is to get some good lenses for landscape photography so unless I win the lottery I probably won't be able to get a real macro lens for quite some time :p

Oh lord... I posted a few snapshots of food and now everyone in here calls me a junk food junkie -.- lol
Well I would never ever touch one of my more expensive lenses lol as I said I bought those two lenses extremely cheap so I don't really care if they stop working AND you may want to put anything that contains electronics in a freezer because that lens was "sweating" after I took it out and I was really surprised that it was still working hahaha. Well hopefully we will get nice weather here tomorrow so I will be able to go out and take some outdoor macro photos ^^

I gotta be honest, your desk is a little screwed up... Mine is always as clean as possible, I wouldn't even risk putting a drink or food near it after what happened last time I tried that. My dog spilled it and it completely fried my motherboard, graphics card, hard drive, and made a sticky mess inside my computer case and key board.

Sorry that was a little off topic, but why did you take a picture of your desk if you're using a macro lens?

EDIT:: Nevermind...

awww sorry to hear that :(
Well since I don't have a pet at least not atm lol I think I could be a lil bit careless :p
besides my computer is a piece of crap anyway lol I guess I just don't really need a better computer right now but I know eventually I will get one especially if I decide to shot in RAW :o

Anyway here are a few more test shots I took earlier with that converted macro lens.

and I took the front element with me to work earlier and broke it with some tools they got there lol and then I attached a UV filter onto it to protect it from dust ^^

I think you should get a pet - it will at least keep you some company at home. lol + gives you something to take a picture of. Search around, I am sure you can get a cat for free, but be prepared to spend 300 bucks on getting it fixed.

Unless you LIVE at your desk - that would be a completely different story. ;)

I've had drinks at my desk, but I only have ONE at a time, and usually when I'm done drinking it, I take the cup away.

Did you gain like 40 pounds being in Canada? Get a cavity or two? Having like 3 cups of "soda" drinks on your desk sure does classify as a junk food junkie. You do know that's more than 50% sugar. lol

hahahahaha!!! I laughed so hard at the last comment lmao! Well first of all I don't think I have gained much weight at all since I moved here. Maybe a couple of pounds at most if any at all. I guess my body is a lil bit different it just doesn't matter how much I eat and how much soda I drink I wouldn't gain much weight. As for cavity... well my teeth are doing fine so far but I guess I really need to start drinking more water instead hahaha. Thanks for asking though lol.

LMAO! Well I kinda live at my desk at least when I am home because I am not a huge fan of TV because of those stupid commercial breaks and crap so I'd rather sit in front of the computer and watch DVDs and TV shows that's why I bought a large monitor :p
but luckily I am not home very often during the days. ^^ Oh! and normally my desk isn't that messy :p I hate to have a messy desk. <_<

Well I guess I should find out if I am allowed to have cats in this apartment because I would love to take some pictures of cats ^^

Anyway here is an outdoor picture I took earlier using that converted macro lens.
