I went outside a little bit ago and realized two of the trees in my yard bloomed with flowers.
I decided to try out some of my manual-modes because when I first got the camera I used the auto modes.
Any help/ideas etc to help me improve is greatly appreciated.

Also, I had the AF set to Al Servo [is that bad for this type of shot lol? I have a feeling I should have left it on One-Shot AF]

The last one is my favorite by far, due to the great depth of field and the great detail on the flower.
Also, the composition is excellent!

Lol, you "noticed" those flowers bloomed. Ugh, we got 10cm of snow yesterday. And the day before yesterday was 23C, and now today it's back to -3C...Damn mother nature.
I saw some birds nesting in a fence right beside my house, and was pretty excited.
Now they are probably gone due to this weather!

Well it's on a part of our property [we don't have that many acres but still] and I guess I just didn't notice the flowers on the trees lol!
2 and 3 were my favorites ^_^

Is the reason why some of the distorted backgrounds were so weird [like in #4] because it was on Al Servo AF or what?
I'm just now starting to get used to manual-modes because when I first got my camera 2 weeks ago I was using auto modes XD

hmm I am no expert and I am still learning but I think you took those picture in the wrong time of the day. I mean most of those flowers are in the shadow with the sun light coming from the side which kinda made some of those pics not really colorful and undersaturated.

Hm, I see what you mean on some of the pictures.
Tomorrow before work if I have time [I have to be there by 11 am and working all day] i'll try to take some more when the sun is in a different position ^_^
Thanks for the input, all constructive criticism welcome :)

when you are shooting moving subjects use servo - otherwise use one shot :)

Yeah I reread my manual after posting them heh
When taking the pictures I thought Servo was when you weren't sure which focus to use rofl
I'm still learning the manual modes so I forget some stuff sometimes XD

Could that be why some of the backgrounds that are out of focus got really distorted like in shot #4 and #5?

Yeh AI servo wouldn't have been as good as One-shot unless you had only 1 focus point selected and were holding the shutter release button in half-way.

If you are unsure which to use, just stick it in AI Focus and it will sort everything out for ya!

cool pics
