trade my 50mm 1.2 to 50mm 1.4 and 800-850€? I could buy a macro lens and this kind of ring flash for the money(that i could use for macro shots)

how much macro will you shoot?

I dunno, but i could use it as portrait lens allso , ring flash would be really handy on those too, then i could use my current flash for fill flash with it. Most likely i wouldnt use that macro lens that much untill summer, but at summer it would be really cool to get good macro shots with like f-22

from a non photographic point of view, id get it if you are going to use it more, get good shots, and enjoy shooting it.

Hmm..I ghave no clue since I have neither of these, so I'll offer some questions to ask yourself

- how big of a difference is there between the two lens's?
- is it worth the 800-850€?
- what will you do with that 800-850€?
- is your 1.2 in "bad" condition? (maybe it's faulty in some way, trading it in might get you a "good" lens?)

Weigh out the pros/cons

again I don't own any of those lens's but imo trade in - I don't know if 800-850€ is enough to justify the difference between a 1.4 and 1.2. And heck your getting a macro lens which is sweet.

Id rather be shooting with ettl from flash and with a macro lens .

Okay here pros and cons for this thing

pros:
lens and flash i could use for macroing and head portraits, flash would be really sweet with my other flash
size of 1.4, would fit way better on film camera and would be a bit easier to use with digital allso, it would focus right with all f-numbers
if i wouldnt buy the macro lens i could get extension tube set and macro with that 24-105mm lens and get that ring flash with it
i think i could afford extra film back for my hasselblad and extension tube im allready getting for it
i might get wireless transmitter for my current flash, or then use it as slave..

cons:
i would lose that sweet bokeh from 1.2 lens, im talking about quality of bokeh, not amount of it, i dont think i would use that f-1.4(number, not the lens) other than photography in dark and 1.2 is just 1/3rd of a stop faster than 1.4 so it wouldnt effect that much
i would lose a weather sealing 50mm lens and f-4 from other weather sealing lens isnt fast enough all the time when shooting in conditions that need weather sealing
1.2 version has better af in dark and manual focusing is quite hard when its dark, especially with f-1.4
i think i could still get the extension tube for that 24-105mm and macro with it and use that flash i got now

I really like that quality of bokeh from 1.2 and weather seals are big deal allso, but i hate that it focuses off with f-1.4-4 or something like that and if i need f-4 i can just use the zoom lens..
