I have some questions related to photography - specifically editing pictures after they are taken.

So as I take photo's, I want to try to make some of the betters ones stand out. I was just browsing photo's on flickr to see what caught my eye and found one example of a style that I'd like to try. Here is a pic (NOT mine) http://www.flickr.com/photos/pistachio_qtr/3370110388/
I was wondering how one gets this type of effect. Was it done in a program such as Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop? (I have both)

So yea smile.gif I'm looking to mess around with some different styles of editing, if you guys have any tutorial recommendations or websites that you know of it would be great!

To keep this topic 100% photography related I'll a pic I took this morning:

First ever sunrise picture (took without a tripod) :

Did I do anything wrong exposure/composition wise? (just trying to learn smile.gif )

I was thinking maybe I could get a person to stand in the dim light of the lamp post tongue.gif

umm I do like the color of the sky. The clouds almost look purple ohmy.gif
but the lamp posts kinda ruined it a lil bit.

A tripod would have definitely made that picture look a lot more sharp, of course. I don't think it's all that bad (color wise) but maybe you could have tried a different "silhouette" ?

About photo editing, I really am not the one to ask, I just thought I'd comment on the photo you posted smile.gif I do not edit my photos as I like to keep them as real as is.

I think you should try Lightroom 2 for editing.

But I like your photo, but I think it is way to edited, or it looks like it is.

Graduated Neutral density filter you shoulve used.

Makes the sky darker so you can use a longer shutter time so the foreground doesnt end up being all black.
