Hello.

So i was considering to buy myself a canon EOS 40D and i have some ancient lens from year 1989 or 1996 i suppose.... Canon EF 80-200mm 1:4,5-5,6 and 28-80mm one so i was thinking are these old ones attachable to this EOS 40D.and if they are, are they even comparable to the lens that are currently sold in shops or i should get myself some new lens aswell ?

A good 50 year old lens will be as good quality as a modern good lens, if it's been properly looked after. I doubt those lenses will work though.

Well they are working properly on canon EOS 500N or what ever this camera is called, so i suppose they should do fine.I was more worried about their not attachable that the locking devices and stuff have changed in time happy.gif

the 40D is compatible with all lenses for EOS cameras. So im guessing that it will support your old lenses. Just double-check before purchase, though

imo they didnt make lenses with ef mount 50 years ago and used fd back then. Fd lenses can be fitted to ef mount(one that eos cameras use), but you need adapter with glass in it and it will reduce the image quality and work as about 1.3 multiplier, so 100mm lens will be same as 130mm, allso they will only work manually. Those kinds of adapters allso cost much more than adapters without glass.

Yeah it's kinda stupid. I mean those lenses are so freaking cheap I think I've seen people selling a bunch of FD lenses together with a Canon AE-1 for like 50 bucks laugh.gif
