Does anyone even use center-weighted average or partial metering modes on their camera? Or do you shun them?

Coz i see no advantage of using them over Evaluative (matrix) or Spot.

oh and if you use them please say what for! biggrin.gif

Hey! I was kinda wondering about how and when to use the spot and average metering modes lol well right now I am just using the average metering mode and haven't really bothered to explore and check out the alternatives.
but I did find this instruction video about those different modes on a 40D

maybe portrait photographers will use partial metering then because it ignores the backround lighting but i dunno! tongue.gif

Partial metering is great if you just want a particular part of the photo to be properly exposed.

spot metering is good when background is lighter or darker than the subject you shooting. Im using the evaluative mode most of the time and spot metering really rarelilly when its needed. But since im shooting raw it doesent matter that much if the metering is just right on the spot

Yeah i agree. thats how you learn - by seeing how other people shoot and what settings gives what result and how to this and that, etc. then you can tweak settings and stuff and all this to get some wicked photos!
