Well I saw an ad on the internet where a guy in the city where I live is selling his Canon Rebel X - s 35mm film camera with a 35-80mm lens. He told me that it used to belong to his mother and is around 12 years old but still works perfectly but he doesn't know how many rolls of films it has been taken. So I am kinda wondering if there is anything I should check when I meet him tomorrow? Is there a way to tell how many rolls of films it has been taken? I am a noob when it comes to film cameras so I am in need of advice when buying used even though the buyer is only asking for 40 dollars for the whole thing lol.

This is the camera I am going to buy.

Any advice will be appreciated wink.gif.

That lens is real piece of shit and i dont think 40dollars sounds like omg cheap gotta buy now, its a good price tho if your looking for that camera. 12 years is pretty old tho, since you could get much newer for not that much more. But go for it if you want that camera

It's fine for that price.

I've used 40 year old cameras (Nikon F) that were in fine condition and had been used professionally, so there shouldn't be any real problems with it.

You'd be better off getting a half decent prime lens for it if you can afford to shell out a bit.

What film are you planning to use?

Velvia definitely for the win, and some Ilford Delta 100, I prefer Ilford film over Kodak personally.

Well I am going to buy the 50mm f/1.4 prime later anyway so I'll just use that lens on the film camera instead. That is if it works on a film camera...
I am going to look at it first if it's in mint condition I wouldn't mind paying the full price. I mean I spent like 35 bucks at KFC couple of days ago so 40 bucks isn't much at all laugh.gif
Well I saw another guy selling the same camera but without lens for 20 bucks and it kinda looks worn and dirty in the picture so I'd rather pay some more for a cleaner/better looking one with a crappy lens lol.

Yep! I am going to get a 50mm lens anyway which will probably be perfect on a film slr.

Update. I bought that camera earlier today and it seems to be working perfectly and there are no visible damages on it either but as Tomes pointed out the lens is a PoS and the autofocus is extremely loud and slow compared to the lens on my 40D lol. Well now I only need to buy a roll film and a scanner/printer sleep.gif. Does anyone has suggestions on which film I should get?

Nothing expensive for the moment, so no Velvia tongue.gif

Ilford HP5 is a good cheap, easy to use black and white film.

Also, don't bother getting a scanner, get it scanned when you get it developed.
