Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has some tutorials or links on how to take/make panoramic pictures.

I will be getting a 400D or 450D soon and so I would like to learn how to do it biggrin.gif

thanks!

Before Photoshop CS3/CS4 was introduced with its photomerge function, Panorams were quite difficult. IT was a must to use a tripod, and remember a bunch of settings.
But now, with Photoshop you can literally handhold your panoramas, as long as you remember 1 thing: Overlap every image about 20%

That is it. All you have to do is take a series of images panning across an area, overlapping each image 20%
Then, you go into Photoshop. (Don't import the photo, don't create any new project)

Then, go to:
File>Automate>PhotoMerge.
Then a dialogue will open, and you will select the panoramic images to merge together.

Keep the layout set to "Auto" and press ok.
It will generate them and do everything for you!

All you now have to do is crop it down to size happy.gif

You can even try shooting vertically:

All of these were hand held, Merged with CS3.

If you got a question or don't understand, just ask.

Ugh..

Flickr has the hiccups. We're looking into the problem right now.

also, I see in the automate list there is a merge to HDR. can this do HDR's as well?

if not, what are some good programs for HDR merging?

I forgot to mention another rule: Shoot fast.
Get all the shots within a minute, or else they will look off.

Like if the clouds are moving, then you will have a messed up sky with clouds in different places in the panoramic lol.
Or if the sun is setting, you don't want it above the horizon and then below the horizon in a panoramic, that would be bad too lol.

This is one of the first panoramic I ever saw, I loved it. I though I would share. Not by me.

For HDR I use Photomatix, I find it WAY better then CS3/CS4.
It's an actual dedicated program to HDR, works like a charm!!

But CS3 can do HDR, you can try it out.

If you're going to do HDR get Noise Ninja plugin, it will work magic on the noise created from using multiple exposures!

CS3/4 do a really amazing job of stitching your panoramic shots together. The first panoramic pic that I found really cool was :

I'm not going to post in here because its a pretty big file...

But yeah, my favorite part is the reflection off of the water from the city lights.
