So im apllying to photography school and they gave assigment to take some shots, i got bit over month to this ready. If someone has some ideas for the tasks, id be more than happy to hear some. Naturally you cant help on every task, but ill post all enyways. I will allso post the pics on this topics when i get something shot or will ask about your opinions if i got more than one pic to fit some task.

So this is what i need to do:

1)
Memoir with pics and text sized of a4 paper(each).
a. how does your future look
b. why are you applying for this school
c. what good and bad points do you see in the photography industry
d. what sort of jobs are you intrested

I guess i need to take one pic of each, but not sure and they arent ansvering to guestions regarding these tasks..
For the first one i was thinking about taking a pic of someone whos shooting at studio, but that might be hard to get, so im not sure about that.
For second, i got no idea what kind of photo to take for it, but some text shouldnt be a problem(other than to get a4 paper filled)
Third one i was thinking of getting some pic where im happy but need to struggle with little money
fourth wil lbe hard to get one pic that shows them all im intrested, so im not sure if i should get more than 1 pics for this

2)
I need to introduce this company(i dunno what this sort of company is in english, but luckily i dont need to do these with english) http://www.magnumphotos.com/Archive/C.aspx?VP=XSpecific_MAG.AgencyHome_VPage&pid=2K7O3R1VX08V

a. introduce one photographer from the company with sample pictures and tell why you chose that guy
b. introduce another photographer from the company that you dont like that much and tell why you dont like it so much

I dont think ill post it here, because id need to translate the whole thing, but ill write the task if someones intrested what i need to do

3)
Show four pictures you took and tell the technical info on them, what they mean to you and why you chose these pics for this task

This will be easy, ill just pic some old pics of mine i allready took and not hard to tell something about them. If you got ideas what photos i should choose feel free to tell me, but im definetly using some pic i shot on that concert i earned money from, to try to make an impression. Heres some of my pics http://www.flickr.com/photos/27398184@N08/

4)
Take one pic from each of these
a. Some news photo about something that was important on this week(or the week that im doing this task)
b. Happiness/bliss/being lucky/blessing(finnish word onni = all of those, so i just need one pic of some of those)
c. City animal (i might use one of the two pidgeon pics that ill post below, but im not sure)
d. personal pic, how do you see yourself(this one is going to be hard, but i got one idea for it, using long shutterspeed and flash to get multiple flash exposures with different faces i usually have and maybe try to make some triheaded monster out of it biggrin.gif )
e. this is hard to translate to english because its old saying, meaning something that looks good but isnt that
f. self made arragment(like flower or some other objects) I was thinking maybe making some arragment from colorfull flower leafs
g. My view(ill shoot a landscape from the local hill and most likely make it a hdr)
h. people in rush hour (i got few ideas for this one too, but not sure about them)

5)
Last thing is maybe one of the hardest, i need to make my own portfolio folder from a3 sized cardboard and make a mosaic picture from ripped pieces of paper and the subject is orchid. making the folder shouldt be eny problem at all, but that mosaic picture is a big one sad.gif

Enyways for that city animal pic i was thinking one of these shots, but if i get some better shot of a city animal ill use it. And no cat house isnt city animal enough.

I would photoshop that birds head away thats distracting in the front

Im leaning bit towards this shot

Criteria on the pics will lean more towards to how the photo fits in the category more than just looking at pics but naturally i need good pics aswell, so i need to be sure what i shoot.

This will be a big job since im totally glueless about some photos, but luckilly i dont have a day job enymore happy.gif

Luckilly most people trying to get in the school come straight from the middleschool, but im pretty sure there will be some hard challenge enyways, since there will be about 500 people trying to get in and around 30 will get in

If it didn't say "only one photo" I think you can post more than one picture for one smile.gif

What is the reason you are applying for the school? Maybe you can type out some words about this, then read it over, and think of a "picture" or something for when you get a photo of it.

So is this school a class your taking to become a "professional" ? or?

Anyway that's a huge assignment, but good luck!!! happy.gif

Photography is an applied art - I don't think you're going to get away from that tongue.gif

Yeah I guess sad.gif Well it's not that I don't like art and don't like to take artsy pictures it's just I don't think that I am not really good at creating art at least not the kind of art that I have seen. rolleyes.gif

Art is like a fingerprint; none the same. They can be similar, but not the same. Art, in my opinion, is personal; it's your own unique way. And I guess you're lucky if you have a talent in it and can do artsy things.

Yeah I guess... and I am sure it also depends on what kind of mood you are in.
Well I have tried being artsy when making some of those signatures of mine. Well except for those gay ones because that was just fooling around laugh.gif.
Actually I would like to try to take some pictures with deep meanings and I have tried a few times in the past though the results were not what I wanted them to be. I guess I'll just have to take more pictures and look at pictures taken by pros and try to copy some of their styles or whatever lol.

If your talking about the first task, it doesent say one pic each, but they need to fit on a4 paper, so wont be much of a room for meny pics each. I got vague view what i will write, so ill just make the pics matching them.

Its a 3 year vocational school for audio visual media studies and im trying to get to photography line, there are allso line for audio, video and stuff like making flash animations, but i dont need to do those other things. Idea is that people graduating are professionals enough to earn money and theyll teach stuff like handling your company etc allso, but naturally you could continue studying more, but thats more if you want to be a photograqphy critic some like that.

Yea this is huge assigment and will be hard to get all the pics, but hopefully ill make it

Yep i need to take pics that fit in those a, b, c and d parts of the first task and write a4 paper about. One really hard thing for me is to make the pics so that the teachers who judge them will have instant feeling of the task the pic is for, but i dont think it will be too much of a problem.

I dont think some courses have eny assigments like this you need to do before you get in, atleast they dont in here. naturally its bit different thing if your applying to school like this.

I think if you want to create real art from pics, you shouldnt think it in the point of view how to get the pic look like an art, but in the way how to capture the feelings, idea and the basics that make it art in the pic so that theyr easy to read from the picture.

I listened radio show from internet(its in fin so you cant understand it) yesterday and some gay guy was explaining one of his best photos(sounds like true piece of art to me). It was something like this, he was in country side with his boy friend on the lake and in the sauna, then the boyfriend went for a swim, it was a long pier(or is it the right word? enyways the thing you can go to water straight to deep part) and it was rainy day, but rain had stopped so it was bit misty. When hes boyfriend was end of the pier then came the rainbow, the guy went to get his camera and had a pic with his boyfriend end of the pier butt naked and the rainbow on the background ohmy.gif . Just wanted to write it for an example how real art photography is born, you cant think about what kind of art you want to shoot with a camera in your hands, those kind of situation just happen randomly mostly. Another example on the show (sauna again happy.gif ) was when some lady(around 40 years old) was a little girl and they were saunaing with his dad at the countryside and his dad told the girl that this is the most beutifull view in the world(old sauna, moody light etc). After his dad had died she got the country cabinet from him, but had to sell it so she went to sauna and took pic out of the sauna window from inside, so that it was pretty dark inside and from the window you could see beutifull countryside in the summer. I hope you get the point on these.

And thanks for wishing me luck, now ill definetly get in biggrin.gif

How big is an A4 paper? An 8 x 10? (inches)

The class sounds similar to the one offered here; but it's slightly different.
