So about 2 days ago I get this e-mail/message on Flickr happy.gif
You've been sent a Flickr Mail from Emma J. Williams:

------------------------------------------------------------

:: Schmap: Calgary Photo Short-list

Hi Spencer,

I am writing to let you know that one of your photos has
been listed for inclusion in the sixth edition of our
Schmap Calgary Guide, to be published at the end of this
month.

(The link is here)

Clicking this link will take you to a page where you can:
i) See which of your photos has been listed.
ii) Submit or withdraw your photo.
iii) Learn how we credit photos in our Schmap Guides.
iv) Browse online or download the fifth edition of our
Schmap Calgary Guide.

While we offer no payment for publication, many
photographers are pleased to submit their photos, as Schmap
Guides give their work recognition and wide exposure, and
are free of charge to readers. Photos are published at a
maximum width of 150 pixels, are clearly attributed, and
link to high-resolution originals at Flickr.

Our submission deadline is Monday, February 9. If you
happen to be reading this message after this date, please
still click on the link above (our Schmap Guides are
updated frequently - photos submitted after this deadline
will be considered for later releases).

Best regards,

Emma Williams,
Managing Editor, Schmap Guides

Which, when I look at this (I took this way back in the summer of 08)
I notice the sky is really over contrasted, but I guess they like it? happy.gif

I remember getting something like that from them.. only it was clearly a scam... they were asking for permission to publish one of my works in a hard cover book ... looked very illegitimate too. The thing that threw me off the most was the whole 'you can pre-order your book' for such an amount of money.

This was the photo chosen:

Good stuff to see that there are some 'official' publications going around there too.
Nice photo though. its got some superb depth.
Make sure you follow up on that stuff and post up the issue on here.

Congrats.

I had something similar happen to me, except it was not flickr happy.gif It was some other site, and they publish your photo and everything in the book, but they don't tell you when the book comes out. So my picture is probably being published in a book RIGHT NOW, and I have no clue about it biggrin.gif They make you try and believe it, literally, by sending you emails after emails, and actual mail to your house.

OMG! lmao I didn't know that there are people scamming on flickr ohmy.gif
and it's just freaking weird that YOU have to pay money to buy pictures taken by you I mean shouldn't they pay you money for publishing photos taken by you? lol

Well the website is http://www.schmap.com and it seems to be 100% legit.
They even have the past 5 editions of the guide (Mine will be in Guide 6)
and I've viewed photos in it from other photographers in Calgary.

Schmap is legit. I have two pics published in that for Seattle .... they don't want anything and will only publish on Schmap, you retain rights and it even links to your flickr account ...
