I live in Anchorage Alaska and am entering a contest for my photography class on Life in Alaska. I took this photo and would like some feedback before I fully enter it.

Personally I've never been to Alaska. But, this photo does NOT give me any idea about the "life" of Alaska.
You stated the contest topic was about the life of Alaska, and I don't believe this gives a good visual representation of that.

To me, it looks like something you just took at a ski hill. This would definitely not buy me into coming to Alaska.
I could go to any ski hill to see something like this.

I would seriously go out, and find something that will make people go "Holy shit! That's beautiful. I want to travel there now!"

You need something that will visually show the way, culture and people of Alaska to help represent it.

Just my opinion, however.

And my reasoning behind it being about life in alaska because for a lot of people especially ones my age Snowboarding and Skiing ARE our lives. So that was why I felt it was good. But am iso of opinions.

It's nice but it's no WOW effect for me..

Hmm yeah, I kinda agree with sPyyy there, just no "wow" effect. It is nice tho, and it does give ya a feel of alaska somewhat, snowy and all + mountains. I would LOVE to go there someday.

Well I think the picture is quite nice, even if I would not recommend it as one for the contest... this picture doesn't show anything special having to do with alaska... Skiing places look pretty much the same everywhere else;

I can go to any ski resort and see that kind of view and not think "Hey, it's Alaska!" lol.

I have to agree with the others here. It's hard to say what you should have done differently but it just doesn't look very spectacular. It could be the weather and the quality of the photo. Well I have never been to places like that so it does look like Alaska to me
