Well, it's quite a simple question actually.

You see, when you buy a Nikon D40, you ONLY going to be able to use the NEWER Nikkor lenses with it. This means, you won't be able to find
any older lenses that will work with the camera.

Canon on the other hand has a MUCH larger lens capability. You can use ANY Canon EF or EF-S mount lenses (Even those from years ago) AND
you can find Tamron, Sigma and other lenses that will work with Canon too. (This is definitely useful because you can go on eebay and find some great condition lenses from 2 or 3 years ago
that will work perfectly with the Canon camera. And, you will find them much cheaper.)

Any Canon you buy will also have a better AF-Point system than the D40.

Assuming your budget is around the Nikon D40's $450, I would definitely suggest you look into the Canon EOS 1000D/XS.
Canon's main entry level camera.

From what I have read and heard the EOS 400D/Rebel XTI is better than the newer 1000D/XS in many ways and it cost a bit less too. I think the only reason you want to get 1000D is if you want Liveview it offers which I doubt any serious photographer ever use on their DSLR anyway. The XTI is a very lovely camera, easy to use, excellent image quality etc etc and is a perfect first DSLR

The 400D is much more expensive than the 1000D.
He's talking about a Nikon D40
That's about 300-450$

The 400D is over $500.

not at the camera store near where you live tongue.gif

http://www.thecamerastore.com/products/catalog/digital-slr-cameras/canon-digital-rebel-xti-body-only

as I have heard so many times about photography equipment you get what you pay for and I believe paying 100 bucks for a much much better camera like EOS 400D is really worth it.

Yes, but he stated his the Nikon D40, which is the cheapest DSLR on the market. Meaning he doesn't have an extra $100 lying around.

AND, why in the fuck would be just buy the body of the camera?
Seneal's is way better than thecamerastore btw.

And Seneal's is the only store in Calgary you can find an XTi WITH the kit lens, price:
$649.99

XS WITH kit lens, price:
$579.99

Obviously cheaper unless you want used stuff you buy over the web.
And people don't typically buy used camera bodies, as the censor has been used meaning it has less durability.

uh where in his post did you see that he is looking for the cheapest available dslr? Whatever, I am not going to argue with you in this thread either. I was just telling the thread starter that he may want to check out XTI as well course it's a so much better camera.

He is comparing it to the NIKON D40
The Nikon D40 is the least expensive DSLR on the market out of ALL Dslr's.

uh I was simply giving him an advice and telling him something I have heard and read about. Why do you care so much?
I was telling HIM about what seems to be the best he can get for the amount of money he MAY want to spend.
btw D40 is not the cheapest DLSR I have seen.
