Hey guys :3 Thought I'd ask as I'm sure a lot of you have taken them / are knowledgeable on how. While I was out earlier today I tried my best to take action shots of ducks. Not necessarily the most intriguing subject but I needed to train on something ^^ Anyways I was wondering if anyone had any advice when it came to taking those really fast snaps like when you can basically see sharp water drops in the air? When I was trying it today I was shooting in iso 1,600 & shutter speed of 1/1000.

Thanks beforehand ^^

you should shoot on iso 100/200 all of the time, only increase the iso when its necessary. For general action 1/500+ is enough but for super fast action you should go above that. If you are shooting a car or somthing real fast in action, move the camera with the object, this will keep the object in focus and the backround blurred. simply reduce your shutter speed to blur the backround more.

Welcome!

ISO increases the cameras sensitivity to light, but at the cost of downgrading image quality. Thats why the average camera will take much poorer quality photos at ISO 400-800+. When there is sufficant light there is no need to increase the ISO above 200 because there is already enough light. When taking photos in gloomy conditions ISO 400 should be ok. ISO 800+ should only be used for special effects or when it is very dark and you have no flash/lightning available. Before increasing your ISO you should make sure the lens is at a low f/ number so it is letting plenty light in, and you have as slow as shutter speed as you can cope with.
