Well I have seen one or two of the members on here wondering about which p&s is the best for them and I just happened to see this article on Dpreview earlier so I thought I might post it in here.
I am actually thinking about to get one as well in the near future and I think my choice would be one of the Canons.

This review is only about budget cameras I think all of them cost less than 200 US dollars

I think stuff like this should be "stickied" ohmy.gif We need to make a topic with all the essential needs. A lot of people post topics wanting advice on cameras and stuff.

Yeah. Let us drop some good stuff in this topic, and then collect it to one topic and make it a sticky.

All about hardware.

Like when we get a new lens etc.

thanks guys! oops and great leader lol
yeah I do agree that certain stuff should be stickied like that comparison some guy made of two lenses for Canon dslrs
or the tutorial about RAW by Antichrist and so on

well I just find that article interesting because even though it can be hard choose between those few brands of DSLRs out there its whole a lot harder if you want to buy a point and shoot since it seems there are like a million different brands out there while there are very few good reviews on those online so I kinda got really surprised when I saw that review on Dpreview

Well Dpreview has done 3 more tests on a bunch of new compact digital cameras of different categories.

Enthusiast Compact Camera Group Test
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q408enthusiastgroup/

Premium cameras

Ultra compact/slim 'style' cameras
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q408slimgroup/

Personally I would avoid buying those ultra compact cameras because they are know for their crappy image qualities and whole a lot less user friendly than those larger digital compact cameras.

I just find it interesting to see how badly those compact cameras perform at ISO 1600 even those that cost almost as much as an entry level DSLR. Personally I think it would be far better to invest in a DSLR than purchasing a fancy compact like the Canon Powershot G10.

Can any of you guys post an ISO 1600 photo taken with a Canon Rebel XSI or XTI? I am just curious on how good or bad the Digital Rebel series perform at their highest ISO.

Well futu, you gotta see at it this way aswell; Compacts are... well compact. Being compact = more intriguing for non-professionals who seek high-quality vacation photos. What I'm trying to say is a G10 might not < a same price slr in every aspect. Being able to move it easier is defiantly a plus and for a lot of people and a preferred quality over better iso handling happy.gif

You are probably right. I guess not everyone is picky when it comes to image quality and high ISO performance but you have to know that dslrs like Nikon D60 or Rebel XS/1000D with kit lenses don't seem to be whole a lot bigger in size compared to G10 or some of the compacts with superzoom. I have seen people walking around with Nikon D40 and it looks like a toy compared to the EOS 40D I used to have lol.

Haha I know XD But for instance, my mom likes to take the occasional picture but for her she'd never want to be seen with a slr as she thinks they're "bulky and ugly". Apart from being bulky and ugly she also can't carry it in her purse. I really think a lot of people seem to have this motivation tongue.gif That's also how she ended up with the G9 that I ended up more or less taking over (muhahah).

lol So you "stole" your mom's G9, eh? haha I hope she doesn't mind. heh At least she seems to be a generous parent unlike my dad who actually has an old film EOS camera which he never really uses but when I asked him if I could have it he just came up with some lame excuse and told me that he needed it rolleyes.gif dry.gif. Oh well, btw dslrs aren't ugly I find them a lot better looking than a lot of those tiny compacts, it's just like comparing qiwawas with German shephards with the shephards looking whole a lot more majestic and beautiful compared to those annoying and ugly lil buggers. biggrin.gif
