How is the 135L for portraits?

its pretty much the best if you are looking for a lens from 100-150mm range. i think best you can get for portraits are canon 70-200 2.8 IS II and 135mm 2

Well the Canon is a little bit too pricey for me at the moment. Unless I get a few high paying parents I'm not going to be getting the Canon 70-200.

As far as pricing goes, does anyone have any clue what I should charge?

Where do you live? Do you plan on renting / owning a studio or doing this outside?

A town of around 11,000 in Pennsylvania. I'm planning on doing it in a small studio and outside.

What is the largest city closest to your town? Also, can you submit 5 of your best portrait photos for criticism here?

Hmm.. Williamsport is pretty close.. Philly is about 2 hours away and same with Harrisburg.

Nope, not really. I haven't shot any portraits with digital except two the last few days. Since I didn't have any strobes I didn't bother. All of them have been taken with my 35mm or my 6x7 film camera. I have been trying to get more taken. Still 4 months or so to practice.

Here are the ones I have in digital.

I'm terrible at editing, that's one thing I need to work one as well.

Your editing is fine, although the second photo is under-exposed.

hmm.. give me till tomorrow and i'll suggest a price and justify it.

There is fierce competition on the wedding photo industry in philly. That's a toughie.

But for portraits:
http://www.genesmirnov.com/
http://www.anthonywoodphotography.com/editorial00.htm (for editorial-type)
http://melissahassey.com/galleries/studio/ (she's pretty much your target to compete against for children photography)
http://www.churchstreetstudios.com/portfolio-mprt.html (low-budget modeling)
http://loreaux.com/ (decent)

plenty of these don't even say their prices, but I've emailed them just to verify.

I'm sure you know of better options, but those are initial google searches.

Around $1500. It really does not matter, however I've been thinking just to go with the 70-200 2.8 II from Sigma or possibly the OS version..

The 85 1.2 seems pointless for me, it's 2k and extremely close to the only other lens I have.

Get the 135, absolutely :D
