Usually raw files have same name as .jpegs, but with a .awr extention instead. In my cams, they are found side-by-side if you look at the memory card through windows explorer.

If you set it as raw type in your cam, abut you got jpeg, then it's a problem with your camera.

Argh... :(
Then it looks like I'll have to live with it

You don't have to. Is it still under warranty? Also, an update on the firmware may fix this.

If you use the original program from your camera cd to import images they should remain raw.
When i import on iphoto also my raw automatically converts to jpeg.

That's what I was helping her with, she did that and the files transferred as jepgs. And when she just shot only raw files, they still were in jpeg format.

Honestly Marie I don't know what to tell you now :( sounds like its in a professionals hands now. I would maybe go to the store there and see what they say about it?

Omar, what on the camera is faulty if they won't go raw when transferred?

Thanks for your help

Likely a software error. It could also be her computer not recognizing .awr extensions at all. Mary, want me to upload a raw photo so we can remove this factor? Or try a different pc.

Not sure I don't understand the bold part...
And I do have a lap top, I'd have to install that disk on the lap top and try it there right?

ok what I'd do is put a raw file on the internet, and you would download it. If you can't see it after you download it, it's not your camera, but your computer instead.
If you have a laptop, install the EOS program there and try to see. That way we can try to isolate the problem as much as possible. I don't want you sending off your cam to Canon and pay for just a cleaning :D

Lap top is full... can't install yet...
The raw test sounds good, if you can make it not so big cause I don't have high speed internet....
I must go to my son's speed skating and will be back later tonight
Thanks again!

This might be worth trying, but I seriously doubt it's the computer. Raw files have to be converted somewhere, and if they're coming straight from the camera as jpegs then the camera is converting them. The computer wouldn't automatically process the files.

I haven't heard of a camera doing this before either though.
