I think I`ll order a battery grip for my 5D Mark II now. after shooting with bg for over a year on my old cam, it feels like there´s missing something with the new body, even tho it´s much bigger.

Yeah, once you get used to battery grips, it's hard to go back.

ordered a phottix now. I still can´t deal with canons philosophy: "People that have alot of money to spend on bodies, also have alot of money for other accessories". At least it feels like this was their idea. 250€ for a Canon BG-E6, no thanks.

For a pro, that's small money to pay for better camera handling and battery life.

When I bought my camera, (used) it came with the grip, and it's always on!
I can live with the extra wight, cause I am loving the extra battery life

well yeah, but I dont really see what exactly justifies a price difference of around 150€ compared to the other brands like phottix, which seem to provide pretty much the same mechanics and build quality.

Well when the battery grip breaks and is stuck to your body.. Canon will void your warranty if it's a third party grip.. And yes, i've seen that happen couple of times even with Canon grips. The LP-E6 batteries provide alot longer life span compared to the rebel/ xxD batteries. One fully charged last me a whole week in NYC with it in standby majority of the time. :O

If i remember correctly, they're good for up to 1300 exposures before the battery is completely drained.

I´m not talking about the batteries, that´s all fine. But I had a phottix bg for my 1000D aswell, and it fit perfectly, did it´s job perfectly and didnt seem to be breaking anytime soon. I hope it´ll be the same with the new one for my 5D. I´ll try it out, and if it´s not flawless I`ll get the canon one anyways.

Oh yeah i know. I didn't bother buying one for my 5DII. I had one with my Xsi and 50D. I used it alot when i had the rebel since the body was so darn small.

I got it with the 50D too thinking that i'll use it alot.. but the weight of it got to me eventually and the bulkiness. The fact that the grip for the 5DII and 50D doesn't have the joystick either killed it for me.

On other news, I'll be using x4 external flash units on my next wedding. Shooting @200 iso in a pitch black venue should be the envy of every photographer :D
