Well, lots of comments but no new picture to comment on...
I'll post a new one then :)
Today was the last day of speed skating for my son... there was a friendly competition for all the members (my son got a silver medal yay!!!) and a few members of the Canadian National Team were invited and got involved with the race and all, quite an inspiration for the young ones!!
They also did a race demonstration and it is beautiful to see them go!
Unfortunately, I am extremely bad at taking such pictures... I feel my camera is not reacting well with this kind of light and the results are not so great...
This is my only 'satisfying' picture among 200 taken :(
I had to boost the iso at 800 to be able to shoot fast enough, but it didn't seem quite fast enough as many were movement blurred...
Also at the speed they were going, I had a very hard time to get my little focus point dead on the spot.
Most individual pictures look like 'still', no movement, as if the skater was holding himself on the ice to take a pose..
That one looks a little more lively cause there are more than one skater and we can 'imagine' the evolution of the movement....
Comments welcome!

Camera Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi
Exposure 0.003 sec (1/400)  == couldn't go faster...
Aperture f/1.8
Focal Length 50 mm
ISO Speed 800
Exposure Bias +2/3 EV  == only way to get some light in the faces, otherwise they were too dark (had to compensate)
Flash Off, Did not fire

wouldve been a little better dropping the shutter speed slightly, this would blur the faster moving body parts (arms and legs) yet the rest should remain fine - it will give a better sense of motion / speed
crop the top of the pic so the yellow helmets in the background arent distracting

weird that you say its overexposed, because the exposure seems to be exactly the same as in you pic  . its just that there is less shadows on the dolls face because its flatter than human face. someone(with calibrated monitor) vouch the overexposure on it? my monitor might be out of calibration

It looks overexposed on my monitor as well. Calibrated to 110cd/m2.

There is no texture in the face though?

nope. because of this the problem with the face when converted to BW is that it looks muddy gray if it gets even a hint too dark. i adjusted eyes to be white(since they were white, but a hint of underexposed in the original jpg so they looked a little gray on it) and face just a hint darker so that it shows its not white as well. but apparently i should calibrate my monitor if the face is white also

no photo above me to rate :(

Transmigration of the line from the paper's surface to space architecture is closely linked to it.

>2011, still shooting jpeg

There's your problem hah

Calibrating will allow you to see what I'm seeing (and a couple others here)

Do you hold alt when you adjust the blacks/whites on a levels adjusment layer?

Thanks!!!
Now that is what I call commenting on a picture
Unfortunately the season is over and I won't get any more speed skating shooting occasions till next winter, but I was able to work on the cropping and get more of the skaters :)
Just so I don't steal the show and let the next person comment on Karagor's picture and post one as well, I'll just put the link of the new cropped version of my speed skating pic :)

And @ cmajor, please refrain from putting comments such as 'boring' and rating a photo according to your own interests, instead on the actual photography skills.
If you put such a negative comment, at least say how to improve it
