Not that I am one to talk, especially on this subject as I haven't even tried shooting for a contest in 3 months... But, why not just go out and shoot? Just because you lack an idea for this contest doesn't mean you can't go enjoy the outdoors. Take your camera bag, load it up, get in your car, and go. I have found, when I actually go shooting, that I enjoy myself and photography much more when I am just doing it. Not thinking about it, not trying to achieve anything, just doing it. Now some of you *cough* Omar *cough* may say that you need to have a goal or idea of what you're shooting, and that you need to set out to achieve that. With that said, I agree, but only when you're trying to make a business out of it. Photography as a hobby should be done because you enjoy it. Go out and enjoy it.

Photography is expensive. Unless you got a good job with lots of extra income, have rich parents or are 12 and parents buy you everything, or steal, you're gonna need to earn money from photography to get more stuffs :D

But you don't need more "stuffs" to just go out and shoot. Especially for a fun sub-forum contest.

If you're not participating to win, then I feel sorry for you. People who don't try their hardest in everything they do tend to regret it years later.

Haha. You're fun.

I never said you shouldn't try to win or not give it your all. I couldn't agree more with the comment about trying your hardest. I have experienced that regret more than I feel necessary, believe me. The greatest ideas in this world's history didn't come from nothing. They came from experiencing something, then wanting to make that experience greater. I was simply suggesting to go out, enjoy photography, then let an idea come to you. You can shoot for the enjoyment and still strive to get a "perfect" shot. I never said go out and shoot everything half-assed.

But if you don't strive to improve yourself, and part of that improvement must also come from equipment, then you're half-assing it. A 'hobby' of mine is starcrack. It doesn't keep me from studying the game until I got masters rank.

And how can you know what you need to set out to improve without doing whatever that is?

I play starcrack for fun. Photography... not so much. I've had a few fun shots, but even that is very limited :\

That's what jsp c/c is for! For example, when I came home from my last e-session, I thought it was the worst photoshoot I've ever done. With some patience, full utilization of the 5d II's cropping ability, and time, I think it's actualy pretty good now :P
It was thanks to jsp, DisconnectYourBrain, and my lovely assistant that we were able to come through this fuck-up.

I was so used to having a light person hold the lights instead of using stands that I messed up on the exposure several times. I've henceforth practiced that shit like 2 hours and I nail it on the first settings usually.
