So, you're saying 12MP can only print up to 12 Inches without harming the sharpness???
Doesn't sound right to me ?

I've printed 20 x 30 with 12.2mp and had them produced very sharply that sold for over 200...

Stand within 1 inch of the print and tell me it's pin sharp :) Where does 12mp and 12inches come from? :S

All of what I said pretty much relates to the quality when viewed up close. Have you ever looked at a billboard? Looks pretty shit when up close. Stand back from it at 50 metres and it looks great.

Do you learn about printing at your course?

ps. the amount you sold a print for is irrelevant to this discussion.

Nikon D90 Kit with AF-S DX 18-55mm
f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi with EF-S
18-55mm IS f/3.5-5.6 Lens

Some store has them both on special, this week-end only and I would like some opinion on them, preference from people who have used one or the other...

Thanks in advance :)

These two cameras are a "much of a muchness". Meaning they will perform very similar in almost all aspects.

The only way you could finalise your choice is by going into the store and playing with each camera. Do you like the button setup on Nikon's? Do you prefer the menu layout on the Canon? etc etc

Personally, the Nikon's button layout shits me. My boss has a few d3x's and I just keep clear. They look like an illogical mess haha But each to their own :)

Is it possible to know the ppd of a camera?
I understand the basics of 200 ppd for good quality enlargement print..
If I understand well, the camera is the source of that, correct?

well its all a matter of opinion and how fast you adapt to it.

in my experience i thought the nikon was easier to handle than canon, but either one once you get the hang of it, its pretty easy.
its just a matter of just playing around with it and getting to know your friend!

but i do agree that they are pretty much the same.

canon and nikon are competitors and when one releases a new camera the other will release one similar as an alternative.

maybe you can look for which has the better deal with the lens it comes with or the price/plan if you care for any of that.
i know some places give you a free whole year of prints which is pretty useful.

Even up close it looks perfect, without any distortion.
Maybe you need to start using a higher dpi printer...

and 12 MP relates to 12 inches because you said each pixel is equivalent to an inch in printing.
I'm disagreeing with you.

The store does that for you, you don't need photoshop.

hmm what is this thread about again?
It's funny how we argue about this and that and forgot what MotherOfTwo was asking :O shame on us :S

Anyway as I was saying if you are only considering D90 and XSI you should definitely go with D90 and you could get third party lenses like Tamron and Sigma later when you want better lenses course both manufacturers make some sharp lenses at a lot lower prices than the OEM :)

Thank you

One for sure I could go to a store and look at the cameras and try them out..
Unfortunately, I have done that before, and those cameras are so complicated for me, that I don't know what I'm looking at, at all... :(
So I value more the opinion of people using DSLR's on a daily basis and have no interest in me buying this brand or this other brand cause all they want me to do is spend money in their store....

Also, with the types of questions I ask, I give the impression of not knowing anything about photography, but it's the digital technology that I am not familiar with...

I want to be able to just be worrying about the price and knowing exactly what to look for...

-----

ok I tend to look at the Canon choice, for the price and potential lens price for the future...

There are kits available, and for me a telephoto is primordial for what I want to do...

Which is better in your opinion?

Canon EOS Rebel XSi w/18-55 IS & 75-300 USM
12.2 meg. DSLR with 2 Canon Zoom Lenses

Canon EOS Rebel XSi w/18-55mm IS & 55-250mm IS lenses
12.2 meg. DSLR with 2 Image Stabilized Lenses
(50$ more than previous option)

------

Also... is it normal that this camera only offers iso 100 and up? Or did I miss something?
I have iso 80 on my little point and shoot, and used to shoot in iso 60 film...
