Starting to serious consider buying the 100mm L Macro and after reading reviews and looking at sample pictures, its killing me because I need to stop spending money until I get a job :(

Haha, I feel ya :P
But, I won't spend my money until I know I'm safe at work, I'll get this information in a week or two.

I'm waiting to buy a nikon d7000.
That is, if the release goes well, but the opposite is not very likely imo

The 100mm L IS macro is a sexy lens. It's great for portraits (beautiful bokeh). Heck, I even used it in a wedding for the whole venue. For those of us who know how annoying primes are, consider 100mm range, which is ugly :D

Anyone got any recommendations for a Nikon 50mm lens?

Primarily shoot my F100, but I've got a D50 I'll upgrade one day.

i have use both the nikon 50mm f/1.4 and f/1.8
the f/1.4 does seem slightly better

currently using the f/1.8 and would not replace it
however if i did not have a 50mm i would spend that little extra and get the f/1.4
besides they are both rather affordable

hope this helps

Just a question out of curiosity. Is it possible to get a cheap used F6?
I mean those film cameras should be pretty cheap now that almost everyone
is using digital and it's hard to believe that a new F6 cost as much as as a D700.

As for a 50mm I know a lot of Canon users have the Sigma 50mm f1.4 but as
with many other Sigma lenses it all depends on your luck if you get a good
copy or a shitty one

Why's it hard to believe? It's one of, if not the single best professional 35mm film camera.

I doubt you'd find a good one for less than 1k.

Well because it seems not many ppl out there to shoot film anymore and F6 with it's high speed and advanced AF seem
to be aimed at journalists and sport photographers who definitely don't use film nowadays but I can be totally wrong.

Ok here´s my little story about what I did today. I`m planning to buy a new body in the beginning of 2011 or even sooner. So I went to our local electronics stores and wanted to compare the 50D to the 7D, because that are the two cams I consider buying ( also got a used 5D MK I in mind, but I´d need to get alot of new lenses ). So in the first store, I asked for the 50D. Actually I was prefering it due to it´s way lower price and because I dont really need the hd vid. They said they didnt have it anymore, and they wont get it either, because the 60D´s out now. I was dissapointed, and asked him for the 7D. he gave it to me. I felt comfortable holding it, but the completely different buttons and menu setup totally freaked me out. I did some test shots with the 15-85mm on it. Not THAT impressive. Then I went on to the next store, again asking for the 50D. Same as the other one. They didnt have it anymore. so I once again asked for the 7D, but this time, with the 2200€ 70-200mm f2.8 L USM IS on it. Took some test shots. Was absolutely stunned. The great body combined with an even greater lens was simply THE SHIT !!! I then also tried out all the functions of the 7D, like the super fast focus, the 7 photos per second ( it´s true ) and especially the high ISO. I went up to ISO 6400 and it looked amazing. of course, the camera´s display is kind of not showing exactly how the real picture looks in the end, but I was pretty impressed. Still a low amount of noise in low contrast places. Awesome. When I put on the 100mm f2.8 L USM IS it happened. I totally fell in love with the 7D. I had a hard time giving it back to the seller :D
Still thinking about my new love, I headed on to the next store, and again asked for the 50D. And guess what, they didnt have one. So basically I was in every reliable camera store in my city and nobody had a 50D. I even asked for a used one.... no chance. So here I am...... still feeling the need to try out the 50D before I decide to get the 7D, but I cant get my hands on it. Now I gotta find some person who uses a 50D and allows me to play around with it abit. that´s going to be hard. guess I have to try photo studios and photographers.......... but then again, why would they give their camera to some stranger :D:D

We´ll see if I´ll get a chance.....
