Nikon is (I tell it for sure) not launching new cameras at least until April, a friend of mine works in an official Nikon shop, no new models will arrive before the 31th of March.

Canon is in advantage with 5DII over D700, why should Canon announce 5DIII before next Nikon's move? And do not forget that 1DsIV it is more probable that will come out first.

I foresee at least one year before before a new 5D arrives and here in Italy, searching in the web I have found 5DII (new) at 1700 € that is not high for our prices. IN shops you pay 2280 with the same guarantee...

Do not forget that 5DII have been lunched 6 month before it was commercialized...

Because it's been rumored that there will be no 1Ds IV, and that the 5DIII will be the full frame high-res pro model camera. Current 5DII users complain about AF and build quality. If the 5DIII addresses these and puts 7D/1D quality AF in the 5DIII, it would be basically a 1DS IV for thousands less.

That's just a rumor, but it would make sense. No, there won't be a 5DIII for a while. I said 2011, probably late 2011 from what everyone's saying, but nobody knows for sure except Canon.

I think I´ll wait until after christmas. I´ll have to buy quite some presents anyways. After that´s done, I can check my financial status and decide what I´ll purchase.

Can we sum up pros and cons of either getting a used 5D Mk I or a new 5D Mk II ?! that´d be awesome, because I think the 7D is out of the race now. I simply want full frame.

Pros:

Higher resolution
Higher ISO
Less noise at high ISO
Better weather sealing
Movie mode
Live view (very useful for shooting on a tripod with manual focus)
Better screen
Automatic dust removal on sensor (very very helpful on a large sensor)

Cons:

Double the price
Won't necessarily take better looking pictures - higher resolution yes, but resolution isn't everything

I think it comes down to what lenses you have? Money is better invested in lenses. What do you have right now?

well my lens park is pretty poor atm. The 50mm 1.8 is the only one that I will be able to use on full frame, so I´ll have to get a few new lenses. Might sell my EF-S ones. As I said already in one of the first posts, I`m going for a 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.8, 70-200mm f4 for portraits and then a 17-40mm for wide angle. Or I´ll just get a 24-70mm 2.8 L. we´ll see. depends on how much money I could spend.

Get the L IS version of the 70-200 F4. I have one for sale but reserving it until jan because I have another potential buyer. It's greatly discounted.

The 5d MK II does have improved IQ and handling. I'd take a used 5d MK II over a new 5d MK I anyday.

The high megapixel count on the aps-c sensor from the 7D makes it have a dense pixel density of 5.4MP/cm2 which equates to pixel size of roughly 4.3µ, with those specs in mind, the 7d is able to resolve 116 lp/mm on a smaller image circle, which exceeds what the 70-200/2.8 mk1 is capable of.

Now to put things in perspective, the 5d mkii has a pixel density of 2.4MP/cm2 and pixel size of 6.4µ with resolving power of 70 lp/mm. Even though the 7D's image circle resides in the "sharper" part of the lens, it stresses it alot more then a full frame would.

I don't mean to mislead anyone but i just want to clarify that just b/c the sensor in the 7D has a higher resolving powr, it doesn't mean that prints are sharper etc.. it just doesn't hide shit quality from a lens, it's actually more demanding on it

Less pixels spread over a larger sensor would mean the lens would have to be sharper...?

If pixels are tighter on the 7d sensor, you would get away with a lot more.. ?

I don't get how something smaller and more dense could be more demanding in sharpness compared to something that is larger and less dense.

I'd get some lenses then. Start selling your EF-S lenses and replacing them with EF. I'd opt for the f/4 IS (not just IS, better lens optics also)
