I dont think a 50mm would be good choise for only lens with crop camera. Imo 400d with kit lens and 50mm 1.8 would be best choise for beginners

I think the same. smile.gif

Because you are restricted when you use the 50mm, you learn more by using the kit lens.

So what would I need? A telephoto?

Btw, what do you mean by the kit lens? Like this one with the standard lens it comes with?

Or should I buy just the 400D body and one of those cheaper telephoto lenses I posted?
[Theres more than those 2, theres like 6 of them that range from 100-175 i'll post them if you want to see them]

Telephoto is no good for landscapes and stuff like that, its good for birds and other small stuff in a distance. And yes thats the kit lens on that link with the 400d. Long focal lenghts allso make good background blur when focusing close. I still suggest the kit lens and a 50mm 1.8.

Heres few examples on longer focal lenght with the 55-250mm is lens, but on 40d(same crop factor as 400d)

This is at 55mm, from like 250meters away

This is with 250mm from about 10 meters away

cant write more now because gotta go to work again

I really like the first picture, and that's the kind of pictures I like taking.
And I see what you mean with the blur, I like it alot in the second one.
So should I go with the 400D with the kit lens or go with the body and buy a different type of lens?
Like the 55/250mm you were taking about
