Those are what I use.
They work like a CHARM.
I compared them to the $219 Canon IR Transmitter, these Cactus's were MUCH better.

Would extension tubes give you farther zoom? I know they allow you to zoom farther without changing the minimum focus distance (This gives you those REALLY REALLY close up macro shots with telephoto lenses, like of the hair on a spider etc.)
but do they also give you more zoom?

Cactus V2s, they are $30 and work like a charm for me.
But, if you have $400, pocket wizards are the way to go.
OR If you have around $3000, EL Skyport's are the way to go.
I personally have use the Cactus V2s, and they work like a CHARM for flash guns.
I haven't used them with strobes yet, I'm not sure they would work with larger studio stuff like SB800's without the male/female ports etc.
It does have 1 small male to female port however.
Cactus V2s. Go get em'! (
(I am not sure if the V3s are out yet, but if they are, get those!)
Like $50 for a set.
