Manually focus instead of auto focus. Also not just because of the setting, but because youre shooting at night. Your camera isnt gonna know where to focus.

Well just keep going out and taking random photos of everything, thats what I did when I started out ^^

Have you tried shooting fully manual yet?

E: Lol Ive heard that a lot

okay, thanks a lot.
I'm shooting on semi automatic ^^ I mean I choose the function A or S. But I find the M one not convenient as it needs much more time to take a shot.

True, but it also gives you the most control over your shot. I know a lot of people prefer aperture priority, but I think at least starting out you should be shooting on manual. Learn everything before you take short cuts, know what I mean? Plus if youre taking photos like that, you have time to set up for your shot.

my guess is you shot it hand held
with that low light you are way better off with a decent tripod and even a remote trigger
if you shoot it hand held again try settings similar to this:
iso - you going to have to pump this high
shutter speed - 1/125 or up, depending how steady your hand is
apereture - between f/11 and f/16
with that your shots should be sharp and in focus but with the high iso its going to be grainy

if you can use a tripod
iso - 100 or 200
shutter speed - keep it open as long as needed
apereture - f/11 or above

that should help

also read up on rule of thirds
think it would look way better with the horizon on the bottom 1/3rd and include the top of the tree in the shot

thank you mate :) I'll try that soon.
And btw I don't like rules like the one of thirds, it makes it not that natural. It's just like when you teach drawing to a kid : telling him how to draw a body with only a few lines. It's way better to let him experiment and express himself by drawing. I don't know if it's clear .. It's quite complex.

Mmm, rules arent meant to be followed 100% of the time, but definitely most of the time. They are there for a reason. Centering focals, more often than not, isnt aesthetically pleasing. It just doesnt lead your eye the same.

A couple other personal rules: No selective coloring, blech. Move around a LOT, no one wants to see 20 shots of the same angle.

i know what you mean but you have to stick to them and practice it, and then later on you can break the rules when you know it will make it better
i gaurentee that shot will look so much better shot that way

Hey guys could u help me to choose a tripod pls? I'd like to buy one but I have no idea of where and wich one to choose.
Is it better to buy one on the internet? I went to the "Fnac" last week and they told me the best one for what I needed was at about 60 euros (which is quite a lot for my "student" budget).
So I need a tripod for my Sony a390, with the lens 18-55..
any advice?
