Oh I definitely will! I'm going full frame for my next camera. It'll be some years yet before I can purchase it anyway. Besides, if I switched brands - that would mean having to get all new lenses again. That would be a painful process!

Yes, that's the unfortunate part! I wish somehow I would win the lottery (I've never bought a ticket in my life) and win 10 thousand - that would be perfect! But then maybe it'll be like diablo - eventually I'll have 'all the good stuff' and it'll be boring.

Why not the 7D ? I should almost make another topic for some camera purchasing advice - but I almost say it's not worth it until I'm ready to buy - new cameras, etc right?

new cameras = the moment to buy the older cams. The first year or so = patched cameras and faulty production.

Change of plans...
Women can never make up their mind....

Ok I realized yesterday that I need to upgrade my camera... I can always rent the lenses...

I checked at the Montreal store for Canon cameras and couldn't find 40D or 50D, only 60D which seems to be in between the rebels and the Mark...
Is that any good?
Would it help me and make a difference in action shots?

HELP!!!!

Hello :hello:

Both the 50D and the 60D has it's own strength and weaknesses and it's up to you yourself to decide what's more important.

I will list the pros and cons of each and you can make up your own mind. :)

Areas where the 50D wins IMO.
  • The 50D has a higher burst shooting speed @ 6.3fps vs the 60D's 5.3fps
  • The 50D has a better build due to the magnesium alloy used in the body. The 60D has more of a plasticy "rebel" feel.
  • The 50D has AF "Micro-adjustment" so you can adjust the lens yourself if it has a focusing problem instead of sending it in to Canon for a calibration. The 60D lacks this feature. Just to be fair, i have not used this feature in my 50D, 7D or 5DII with Canon glass.
  • The 50D's body is slightly bigger then the 60D, depending how bigs your hands are. They could feel different.
  • The 50D uses CF (Compact Flash) Memory cards while the newer 60D uses SD cards. To a lot of pros, that's a step backwards since most CF cards are usually faster then SD cards in write speeds. For action type shooting, having a faster card will help you clear the buffer faster enabling you to shoot more images. But then the other side of the coin, when you're upgrading from a Rebel, you don't have to invest in new memory cards since all rebels use SD cards.
  • As for ergonomics, i personally like the "joystick" found in the 40D, 50D, 7D, 5D, 1D etc (you get my point). The 60D lacks the stick but is integrated into the wheel. Some people like that, but i've grown accustomed to the joystick being separate and prefer that over the 60D's "improved" wheel.

Areas where the 60D shines.
  • The screen on the 60D is superior compared to the 50D due to... (1) the articulating screen, it makes composing images from odd angles or very low to the ground easier. I really wish my camera has that feature. (2) The 60D has a higher resolution screen. 1.04million pixels compared to the 50D's, 920k pixels
  • The 60D has video if that means anything to you. I personally haven't touched the video features in my 7D nor my 5D Mark II.
  • The 60D has a better metering system (same as the 7D's system i believe). But to me, it doesn't make a bunch of difference. If i needed to expose something more "difficult", i just change to spot anyway.
  • And the biggest Pro of all for the 60D. The image quality, the 60D uses the exact same sensor the 7D has, compared to the 50D, it has better high ISO noise handling abilities (1- 1.5stop)

Again my 2 4? cents. :)

I am so confused.......
I bolded what is important to me...
2 vs 2...
I don't need the video, and the articulating system I don't care about cause I never use that, I prefer looking in the small window...

Now what do I do!!!

Thanks for your input

------------

Someone called me for my camera and will call me back tomorrow morning to let me know if she buys it or not...
She needs it for Thursday...
That means that I would have to buy one right away also, because I have a scheduled photoshoot on Thursday as well.....
Ouch...

Lolol, i thought all that would make it easier for you to decide.

I would personally ignore the metering system since it doesn't seem like a dramatic improvement (to me anyways). nor the memory card speed. You can always buy faster SD cards (slightly more expensive).

So it's down to speed (FPS) or image quality.

It's up to you to decide. Also, i forgot to mention the 50D's 15.1mp sensor to the 18mp sensor found in the 60D. The increase resolution allows you to further crop the image to give it a fake "tele-photo" range/ extension.
