As I said it all depends on how much you are willing to spend on equipment not if you want to become pro or not. I know right now I can spend quite a lot of money on camera equipment because I have two jobs and don't really have a life but I know it will be different next year course I will try to get a car and most probably hang out with friends a lot more which I consider a lot more important than getting camera equipment. I am sorry that you lost such expensive items but I hope that unfortunate event will not keep you from getting decent cameras and lenses in the future ;)

@Antichrist: I have read about those manual lenses in the Canon digital photography forums and I have seen some really awesome and sharp images taken with them but I don't think they are any good for those kind of photos I want to use them for which are mainly pets and portraits :p

Well I am not sure about others but I for one definitely started to put more effort in taking photos after I bought a better lens and it also made me or shall I say forced me to shoot in RAW only lol
and I am definitely not saying that if you have shitty equipment you wouldn't be able to take good photos I mean just look at MotherOfTwo here....

well she doesnt have a bad camera
i use to want that camera before i got interested in dslrs.
but that was before youtube was invented. so it was quite a while ago.

i want to shoot in raw but im too lazy, and i havent really worked on lightroom 2 at all :(

Ok basicly, what I want, is to improve certain aspects of my photo skills, that CAN be improved with the camera itself.
I mean, if I totally screw up on a picture, I have to improve my own skills...

Most of you know what I like to take pictures of...
Macro photography of flowers and, most of all, insects.
I have a passion for nature, insects, spiders, mammals, brds etc..
You have not seen many bird pictures from me cause imo a 200mm + is required.. 300 mm even better.
But I would totally love to have the equivalent or better, in digital, to what I used to take pictures with on film.

My old camera, that I still have but do not use anymore cause of digital being so easy and cheap, is a Canon T70, all manual focus.
had a 50 mm lens and a 200 lens f:3.5.
Nothing great, but of great use, since I could also borrow my dad's lenses (he has a Canon A1 with even better lens than me..).

I do not do any studio photography.
I like to be spontaneous and all.

This is an exemple of a picture that I think is good (to my taste) but too grainy and lacking details:

Ok to me it'S all chinese...

But basicly I want to upgrade the picture quality to be also able to make a nice enlargement of the pictures I like the most...
I have a feeling that this picture would look like crap in 11 x 16 ... :(

So these are my needs when looking for a new camera.
I also do not need the latest model..
Last year's model is perfect for me :)

Now what do you recommend......

Thank you so much everyone for participating in this

you can use those lenses from the Canon T70 and A1 on canon digital cameras, but you need adapter that has glass in it if you want to focus to infinity and it lowers iq and adds 1.5x more focal lenght, so 200mm 3.5 would get to 300mm 3.5 and with cameras 1.6 crop factor the lens would be same as 480mm on full frame or film. if you get adapter without the glass element, the adapter works same way as extension tubes, lowers the minimum focus distance(dunno how much, but my guess would be to about half). using adapter without glass you can get some macro shots with it, but i bet you need to use extension tubes allso to get really close shots, like ants face covering whole frame or something like that.

before getting eny adapter you should make sure that you can change the aperature from the lens (not all fd lenses have this) or you need to use the lens wide open all the time and with 200mm lens the focused area would be so small that the lens would be unusable for macroing.

wow that's very mature... and you know that if im into those kind of creepy stuff I would need some telephoto lenses which I dont plan on buying

ok first of all the image quality would decrease once you put on that adapter and you would have to set everything manually and I don't think you can meter either etc etc
so those kind of manual lenses are limited to certain type of photography and is almost impossible to focus on moving subjects even the slow ones so yeah...

c'mon that was a joke -_-

you can meter with canons using manual lenses, only thing you lose besides manual focus is auto aperature setting, but auto aperature isnt really that good enyways, better to use auto shutterspeed if you want to use some of auto mods

iq decreases only with adapter that has glass element in it, fd lenses are only usefull lenses that need the glass element to focus to infinity. like i told its possible to use adapter without glass element on fs lenses, but it works as extension tube, so you lose infinity focus, but you are able to focus closer than normally.

heres some examples using fd lens(with glass element adapter) on eos body:

i think it was 70-200 3.5 lens or something like that, it didnt have aperature control on the lens, so these were all shot wide open
