I'm currently gripless since i love how the 50D feels in my hands. It's slightly bigger then the rebel bodies so it fits my hands perfectly. I don't use the grip alot due to the weight and the custom functions i set on the camera. The vertical grip doesn't have the AF button i use to auto-focus unless i swap the FEL with AF-ON in settings. I only use it when i know i'll be doing alot of vertical shots that day. It'll stay at home majority of the time.

But back when i used to have a Xsi. I absolutely loved my grip and refuse to take it off. I guess i just have big hands, the camera feels "complete" with the grip. My pinkie doens't dangle anymore in midair.

@ Chantal- I had a Opteka grip for my Xsi, the build is excellent.. and for about $70 USD, it also comes with two additional opteka batteries for the camera. Those batteries are great and even outlasts the OEM Canon ones.

Edit:
Just looked thru my album.. i still have the pictures i took of the Xsi when i put it on craigslist.

This is the grip i'm talking about.

Installed on the body.

The build of that thing is very similar to the Canon BG-E5N grip that i have now for the 50D.

I am looking for a grip for the xTi ... I have an older model camera not the xsi, will the opteka still work?

I guess I should be happy about my camera deal then...
When I was shopping for used xsi, my choices came down to one with the 2 kit lenses for 600$, or one with only one kit lens, 3 batteries and the grip for 500 $.....
I went for the 500 $ deal cause that was all I could spend...

That' the exact same one I have!!
And the same Opteka batteries!!

Yeah, I was going to spend two hundred dollars on the battery grip probably a year ago. I had an 80 dollar gift card that I was going to use towards it, so that would only mean me spending 120 instead. I was ok with that until the day it suddenly went missing from my wallet  Now I just can't get myself to spend that much money on it... I'd rather save it for something bigger.

Haha, my in-camera meter overexposes.. I need to underexpose it -2/3 stops regularly. Sucks i don't have the funds to throw down $300 for a decent lightmeter.

I dunno about it being complicated now that i'm used to it... i picked up this tip from a photographer i met when i was out shooting.. it was hard getting used to but i could definitely see the benefit of separating the AF and meter from the shutter button once he explained it to me.

As for the image.. i almost always take a test shot, and look and the histogram, sometimes i get it spot on.. but most of the time i need to take another exposure (if it's a new scene/ subject).. Hopefully one day.. i can get it right the first try.. Hopefully :D

I wouldn't bother with a light meter unless you were shooting on film or in a studio man.

I've been using my camera the same way since shooting on my EOS3 and never really took into account a separate meter button. Might have to have a look! haha

My T2i also over-exposes. I usually just shoot on aperture mode with it set -2/3 stops.

Try and get used to shooting on Manual mode, considering you also have some nice film rigs :P

Nice. It's so unfortunate that the american's have a way better selection on battery grips than the canadian amazon. I see the Canon battery grip for 93 dollars instead of 200 here!!!!

Haha, TBH.. a lightmeter isn't ranked too high on my "to-get" list. You should definitely try changing the buttons, it totally changed the way i shoot.. it may seem more complicated at first, but it's alot more efficient.

YEah, it is quite the difference... but I thought about it... after tax, us prices into CAD, and shipping ... it would probably equal out to be the same, or almost.

I'm more then used to shooting manual, as you said I have film rigs, even my SLR's are manual. The only manual mode I have is on my new Canon EOS film camera. It's just a lot of times I don't have the time to change all of the settings in manual, it makes life so much easier to throw it into aperture mode.
