I'd get a used D40X. It was my previous camera. $300 it should be with lens/battery/memory card. Won't depreciate as fast since it's already low. Then you can decide to upgrade or ditch the hobby.
Get a used one off kijiji, or classified. go cheap. Spend money on lenses.
Have a d3100 and i love it. but there's not to say the canon t3 equivilant is not a nice camera as well.
All i know is im extremely happy with my purchase. Also drop 189 (canada) or like 145 USA on a 50mm 1.8 so much fun, youll love playing around with the depth of field with lens. Good bang for its buck.
