Allow me to say something guys:

Here I see much discussions on technology (sometimes I'm in ofc), but I started shooting with film, manual aperture, manual focus, many pics lost for a thousand reasons.

Now we are lucky, with my old Contax and films 800 ISO were a rarity, 400 good but a lot of grain, so now we have things like 5DII and we are complaining? AF is slow? Try to focus with hands and than test it again :D

Allow me to give an advice, sometimes, turn AF off, put a prime, go out and start thinking in original compositions. Zooms are making us lazy pigs. No creativity but with powerful instruments.

Every one should have a manual lens here. I is a good school.

Start loving your gear!

I like shooting with my manual film stuff more so than my digital and auto stuff...

5d mkII has the same system than 5d mkI, so they didnt cripple it in any way, its just an old semi pro af system. 1d is pro series, unlike 5d, so its no wonder that 1d has better af system. 7d needed a new af system so that it would have even a slight difference to xxd series, other than the body of camera.

do you have af assist points on? this will help the af in low light, but it can also focus slightly in the wrong spot. do you know what sort of surface/contrast differences/colors to look for when focusing in low light? focusing on a wrong spot will cause any cameras af not to work correctly if the light isnt optimum.

i could have bought 5d mkII when i bought my 1d(they were the same price, 5d new ofc and 1d used) or i could trade my 1d for one now, but i prefer 1.3 crop, atleast for now.

A small upgrade to the AF system would be a nice touch. The AF on this 5DII reminds me of my first DSLR (Xsi)'s AF performance.

As for assist points, i have them disabled in custom functions.. I like manual control and know where i focus.

I think i'm just over-reacting. Just wanting a little more for the price i paid, but make no mistake... The IQ and ISO performance definitely blew me away.

I'm a nerd at heart, anyone who glanced in my profile will know it. I guess i'm just taking tech for granted, making thing easier for us. I never had any experience with film so i didn't know how it was like.

Again like i stated before, i paid alot more for the 5DII over my 50D and just had a "higher" expectation of things. :P

I'm sure if i never used the 7D or the 50D before, i wouldn't be complaining at all.

Oh and P.S- In case you haven't notice, my whole current lineup is primes (except for my 100-400L telephoto) :P.

There is no way of not knowing, you are saying it to the world in your signature :D

Anyway I agree that you paid much and you deserve. But probably the image quality is the reward!

assist points doesent cause the focus go around uncontrollable, assist points are these invisible focus points near the main point that search things to focus on(by looking at a contrast difference between the assist point and the main point) when the main point fails to find a point to focus on. but if you know how the main point is able to focus, you can aim the main focus point on things near it where the assist points might be able to focus on. its just that sometimes(for example when shooting singer in a concert with low f-number and tight crop) the af point might aim at the microphone instead of the singers face if there isnt enough light exactly where the main focus point is. if the assist point is turned off, you still wont be able to focus on the singers face and you need to manual focus. when the focus isnt that critical or when the main focus point and assist point are at the same length(like shooting full body portrait in low light) that assist point doesent cause miss focus and it can help quite alot.
