That's how I started nearly 20 years ago at the young age of about 13 (iso good slide/negative scanner to digitalize 10-12 years of 35mm).

But I don't have any of those... My Dad gave me all his old film stuff and I figured that'd be enough to play with.

I am surprised that nostalgia is so popular among you guys :p
Personally I prefer the modern and speaking of that I just received a brand new piece of modern equipment :p
