Sunflowers only bloom in July.... and they are not wild native flowers here...
It's tricky I know...
So far I took pictures of the main flower that blooms this early and is wild.. took the pictures in the town/city where pictures have to be taken...
There is a mountain I go hiking every week, in that city...
The rest is rural (farms) or city...

I tried some fern shots, but only one turned out decent...
The trillium (flower in those pictures) only grow in the forest, so it rules out having a nice landscape horizon... :(

But even if I'm limited by the theme, it also means that everyone else has the same limitation.
My pictures must stand out and be original, as well as good quality..

Yes I'm asking for a LOT :p

edit:
late summer, I'll have wild iris to shoot..
had made a nice shot with my little camera, I'll try to reproduce the same with my new one :)

Also I can try to find an old tree in the middle of a field, after crops are done, in late September, if I am not able to find one before..
But it has to be taken in that very specific area...

Are you up for some tree climbing? :)

This year, the topic is: Wild Plants and Trees from here
(This is my attempt to translate it from French).

Wild plants and trees and how they are significant to the people around them?
Everyone always submits plants and schrubs and scrubs and trees right?
Climb a tree and see everything from the eyes of the tree.

That could be a very good idea :)
I was afraid that was what you meant though

Here's an older low quality picture that I think would fit with the theme...
I have to find another tree (this one is no longer there) in the area of the contest, and combine it with a foggy morning...

How could improve this picture besides better quality and leveled horizon :p ?

---

Here's another one that think could ft in the theme...
It's a birch tree with a sunrise...

--

And I can go back to the same exact spot at the top of the mountain and retake some similar pictures, but with the emphasis on the tree you see at the bottom left, instead of on the rock...
What do you think?

Ok, let's think: What's cliche? Sunsets, running water, sun-beyond-plant shots, and macro flower shots. Take a good look at the winners. Do they just take pictures of plants or do they include something else within their images that makes them win? Are they cliche pictures?

That is why I'm asking... I'm really too new in this..
What do you think of plants with the horizon, taken from the top of the mountain?
I need to go to bed now cause early alarm clock in the morning.. (yes, I work 12 hours on Mother's Day  )
I'll read all your comments ar work tomorrow
Keep posting please!!
All your ideas are good, and sometimes with something someone might post, an image can just appear n my mind and I'll try to make a photo of the idea :)

Plants and trees, hey? That sounds like an interesting and hard contest! I like how you never give up Marie, I think you will only get better by putting so much effort into all of this :). Just keep at it!

I'm really not sure what advice to give on the photos. I really like the idea of climbing the tree and taking a photo of what the tree sees, that would be super cool!

The birch tree with the sunrise to me seems like a very common photo. It is nice, however, but I think you would have to go with something different here.

You are not the only new one to this whole contest thing, so I really can't say much. I suppose the only way is to keep entering the contests and learning from each and every one of them!

Your white balance is off, they're dark, and the light is awkward! What time of day did you take these in?

Hmmm, I guess they are kind of dark... but I really don't know much about plant photography... what would be different if the white balance was all good in these photos, like what would I be looking for?

By the way, good luck in the contest! :)

2 is definately the best of these! 3 doesnt look very special to me and 1 is lacking contrast and looks a bit like it is a very small crop which makes the quality low. 2 has interesting colours, contrast and it looks very harmonious. A good crop or picture ;)

Also: Why don't we set up a photo contest on jsp? This forum seems a little dead lately (I havent posted anything either, but we should do something to make it more interesting again!)
