surprisingly enough i only have 1 lens.

my old nikon that got stolen i had 3 lenses for and it took me 2 months of hard word to get one lens, they were all around 700USD each.
and they got stolen 1 month later.

and the whole time between that i was debating on spending the money on food/paying bills and things i regularly need, or saving most of it for the things i wanted for my camera.
i really wish most of use are fortunate enough to be able to spend money so freely, but the economy is so bad and there are other things people rather spend a lot of money on then a selfish hobby of their own.

Yeah, I see how you mean. I only have one lens that's really expensive, and it cost me a little over 600 CAD. Unfortunately priorities take over so I have not bought another thing for my camera since. But I am happy with what I have.

Sorry to hear that yours got stolen... little does that thief know you worked hard for that and it wasn't just given to you; it meant a lot to you.

the only other lenses i would want that would really effect my hobby in photography would be a macro lens, and maybe a telephoto wide angle lens.
other than that i really dont care for, and ive been meaning to find an add on fisheye, in my opinion would be more helpful to me than paying a lot for the lens itself and the effect is almost the same.

Ah - yeah, a fish eye is pretty expensive. I also thought of that, but instead chose a wide angle :) My next one is going to be a zoom of some sort, and then I will be done for a while - haha you have the same thinking as me!

Well usually primes are sharper wide open than zooms in the same price range :p

http://digital-photography-school.com/prime-vs-zoom-lenses-which-are-best

I like zooms only because of the convenience and that I wouldn't miss a shot because I have to change lenses. hmm I didn't know 135L cost that much in Europe :O it's on sale here right now and I can probably get one for around 1200 CAD and yes it is one of the sharpest lenses Canon makes which makes me want to get one plus I want to get a lens longer than my 24-70 :D

btw is your Zeiss manual?

that isnt true allway that zoom is softer wide open than primes at same price range, if you compare 50mm 1.2 wide open and 24-70mm 2.8 wide open, youll see that 50mm is softer even tho its more expensive. the rule that prime is sharper wide open than zoom applies mostly on cheaper lenses(under 1000€).

i checked and 135mm 2 costs around 1200€, not 1300€ here, but still quite more than my zeiss. and yes the zeiss is fully manual, aperature is changed on lens and manual focus ofc. its nice that i can change aperature from lens, because i can see the dof from viewfinder better(but its gets darker when stopped down much) and i can put iso control to wheel where i would normally control f-number, so i dont need to push iso button before changing it.

some manual focus 100-135mm prime is really good for macroing, especially with tripod and live view. since there is no electronics you can get cheap extension tubes and the lens is cheap itself allso. when you macro you should use manual focus enyway and the focus ring on most manual lenses is really good compared to af lenses, focus is alot smoother and you need to turn the focus ring more to move the focus, so its more accurate to use and you can see dof with chose aperature all the time without pushing dof preview button.

you could get some manual focus lens, af confirm adapter and extension tube set for around 150€.

its manual focus, but with fish eye you can get so much in focus that you dont need to worry about correct focus much

As I said it all depends on how much you are willing to spend on equipment not if you want to become pro or not. I know right now I can spend quite a lot of money on camera equipment because I have two jobs and don't really have a life but I know it will be different next year course I will try to get a car and most probably hang out with friends a lot more which I consider a lot more important than getting camera equipment. I am sorry that you lost such expensive items but I hope that unfortunate event will not keep you from getting decent cameras and lenses in the future ;)

@Antichrist: I have read about those manual lenses in the Canon digital photography forums and I have seen some really awesome and sharp images taken with them but I don't think they are any good for those kind of photos I want to use them for which are mainly pets and portraits :p

-better doesnt mean better for you, everyones different, a great lens doesnt guarantee that you will be good with it or like it or are comfortable with it.

and dont underestimate shitty either.
some of the worst or limited resources can truely test your skills, and even surprise the supposedly better performance things.

its not all about the best equipment you can get, its more than that.

and your friend is lucky, but its very common in all sorts of fields.
there are kids who havent even started first grade yet and they have talent better than a lot of people much older than them.

Well I am not sure about others but I for one definitely started to put more effort in taking photos after I bought a better lens and it also made me or shall I say forced me to shoot in RAW only lol
and I am definitely not saying that if you have shitty equipment you wouldn't be able to take good photos I mean just look at MotherOfTwo here....
