I have thought about that but after playing for half a day with a D700:

#1 I have all canon glass and accessories

#2 I am not a fan of nikon's ergonomics

#3 The D700 has 2 things I don't like: in order to get that low noise, the camera applies MASSIVE noise correction (fucks up the detail and images are soft) and when you shoot 14bit files the D700 can only shoot 2.5fps...(the 40D can shoot 6.5fps @ 14bit).

#4 The 1D is a pro body, fully wheather sealed and really really really rugged. (the difference with the 5D is insane in both ruggedness and functions...)

lmao now you are making me want to sell a kidney just to buy an EOS 1D xD

yeah the lenses and accessories cost ALOT and you dont want to just get rid of them because you want to buy a new body. its better and cheaper to stick to one brand.
btw personally I think Nikons DSLR look kinda ugly too lol at least compared to Canon which I find have very nice curves and lines ^^

yeah I've heard about the replacement for eos 5D. and I am sure sometime next year they will also release a replacement for 40D as well lol will be interesting to see if Canon will use a full frame sensor in 40D replacement xD or at least 1.3 crop instead of 1.6 ^^

I think 1.3X crop will die with my camera...
Think they will actually come out with a 1D mkIIIn or something now...

I use canons 40d and eos 300. Im a canon guy, but i think those mid price range dslr nikons are about as good at canons, but those cheap nikons are a joke imo. Theyr way too stripped to drop the price..

I prefer a brand that shoots pics (I have experience with Nikon, Minolta, Olympus, Sigma and on occasion have used 3-4 other brands on single occasions) ... it shouldn't be too expensive, it shouldn't be cheap though, it should have some weather sealing because of where I live, it should be rugged for the way I am, the system needs to be built around its lenses because that's what really matters, bodies come and go, it's got to be something that not everyone has because I wanna be a unique and precious snowflake =)

My camera came dropping out of my vehicle the other day, landed with a loud THWACK on the ground. I smiled. Thought to myself immediately, boy I hope it didn't land on the lens. I picked it up and inspected the lens, ignoring the body wholly and completely. Lens perfect. I already knew the camera body would be fine, why, not because it dropped 4 feet onto concrete, but because I know its tough. But for shits and giggles I now look at the body ... ahh landed right there on the CF card door, 3 nice marks ... oh well, works just like it never fell. That's why I love my camera ... it can survive me ... because I am rough. And if shit isn't built right, when it comes to my hands, it will break.

nice lol my camera has metal body but I dont think it would survive a fall of four feet onto concrete ground course like three days after I got it the back LCD broke and according to the repair dude something must have hit it even though there were no marks on the body or the protective glass...
