Just picked up the 35mm. PERFECT focal length. I think I could take just this on vacation and I'd be happy.

I think my next lens I'll look at is the 60mm macro (if it still does good non-macro shots comparable to the 50mm 1.8G), since the focal length is going to be a better distance from the 35mm.

I still want the 70-300mm but I'll wait until after my vacation to decide, depending on funds and whether or not I felt like I wanted it during the vacation.

Getting better with shots. Still using auto a lot to test things out since I'm learning about shutter speed, iso, etc... but I'm getting the hang of things.

Ohhh :(. Thanks for letting me know. That's too bad. Would rather pick up something between the 50-70mm focal length (equating to somewhere in the range of 85mm - 100mm focal length cropped sensor) than get a macro lens next.

Question!!!: Seems all the lenses I'm getting are DX. I'm limiting myself to cropped sensor, so there's no real 'upgrade' path. Am I screwing myself over in this regard? In one way, I can see why I'd have enjoyed the full-frame camera... but in another, I've saved myself $1150 over getting it, which is significant. I'm curious about what the future (next 3 years) holds for cropped sensors: I basically want to maintain resale value on my DX lenses if I ever get to be really good with photography and continue to enjoy it. Who knows where I'll go with it or where I won't go... but I try to plan things out. Suggestions? Thx.

Id worry about upgrading later and just stick with the DX for now. I tried looking for lightly used DX lenses cheap but didnt see much which leads me to believe their resale value is fine.

As far as macro, I thought most macro lenses could focus to infinity? The Nikons seem to.
Or is there a different reason they can only be used for macro?

Would like to know about the macro thing. Having a 60mm lens makes more sense to me than a 50mm if I'm looking for pleasing bokeh and a lens for portraits... the 15mm difference between the 35 and 50 is just too close for an amateur such as myself (I think?). Either way, I'm not buying another prime until I feel like there's a specific focal length my 35mm isn't filling that I'd like to have.

Yeh I think I won't worry... I've got a good camera, I'll just continue with what I've got, and whatever lenses I add to my camera are the lenses I add.

i tried to look up some sample pics to infinty but i couldnt, but it seems like that lens will also do infinity, probably why is nearly 600$

i know my one macro lens will only shoot macro closes of around 3 inches and furthest like 12 inches
