I've never used the 1.4 wide open. I used it for a day shooting in a studio with lighting at f/8 and f/9 and I fucking looooooved it. But of course I'd be buying it for the capabilities of making a mouth watering bokeh.

Try it but it's 50/50 at 1.4 lol

i have a 50mm 1.4 as well, although it seems like i might have a bad copy; there is massive colour fringing sometimes, and low light focus seems to be hit or miss.

but its still my favourite lens!

It's quite an old lens, dating way before the digital era so they definitely need a redesign to accommodate current technology!

i never knew, hm.

well, apparently the system itself is 40+ years old now :P

still, its a quality lens for only 400$ and i believe everyone should own or use 1 fast prime :)

I think 50mm is a pretty hard lens to use but it is so rewarding when you get it right :)

o.o

i thought 50 was the standard unless you have a crop sensor...what makes it hard? now im wondering if i was doing it right...oh god no.....

i'd hate to hijack a thread, but i just found out canon made a 40mm pancake and was wondering if i should cop it for only 150$ is it a useful kit or am i mostly covered with a 50mm

It's hard because it is the standard lens!

The 40mm pancake is slow for a prime..

They announced a 1.4 with IS. But it's gonna be twice the price.
