I am just back from Oklahoma City where I was sent by one of the Quebec horse association to follow our Quebec riders, take photos of them in action (barrel racing) and post them on FB for exposure..... it was a great experience and as I said, people on FB will see it, but I really don't have the leasure time to upload it all to post a lot here....
Plus the light was aweful (indoor, no flash and horses going at full speed)
I did a nice photoshoot just before my trip and I'll post a couple photos, gray horse in the snow.... was beautiful!
Look forward to seeing it!

Lol omg, I cant believe he said that. He couldnt have warned you about the issues while you were there?
Ive heard that sometimes you have to send your lenses out to be calibrated to your camera specifically? Maybe that could have helped. That sucks though.
What store did you go to? Unfortunately the only store around here is Best Buy, I doubt they have a chart and their selection is shit. Thats why I always order through Adorama. I dont get to test the stuff, but I trust them.
Well for now, I love it
At least I never got caught up in selective coloring, right? Let me have my bokeh!
Heres one of my favorite recent shots:http://i.imgur.com/AljlV.jpg
It wasn't that particular lens, it's the Canon 50 1.4 in general, it's hard to find a keeper.
I wasn't going to send it off, I live in a foreign country where coming across english speakers is 50/50 ha
He was really cool and I was surprised he went to so much effort with me.
Sorry but the bokeh thing does nothing for me haha

If live in the states I believe you can get the much better 50mm f1.4 for less than 300 bucks. I have the older 50mm f1.8 with metal mount and distance scale but I have never used it simply because I find my f2.8 zoom adequate most of the time and I just hate the slow and noisy AF of that lens. I think you are going to love the 24-70mm f2.8 if you are making money by shooting portraits.
Honestly wouldn't trade my trio of primes for the world! Can't beat em'

That sounds almost like the Sigma 50mm f1.4. I have heard that you really need to be very lucky to get a good copy of that lens and those who actually have a good copy love it
If she is shooting with the newer higher end Canon cameras like the 5Dmk2 and mk3 or 7D she should be able to adjust the AF accuracy.
hmm it may still take awhile for them to come up with software that would actually make bokeh irrelevant and also with large aperture lenses you can stop action in low light

subject isolation should be considered very important in many situations. So what is your opinion on those tilt shift lenses? I have been eying them for quite awhile but it seems that a tripod is a must when shooting with those lenses and I don't want to walk around with some damn tripod all the time

I have a 1ds III and tried micro adjusting but there's nothing you can do about a lens that is simply soft!
Tilt shift is very niche..
17/24/45 are basically for architecture/landscape, couldn't imagine shooting too many "portraits" with them. 45 could be cool...
90 is great from what I've seen for food and still life. Also great with portraits to mimic MF/LF front or rear standard focal plane shift. Same with 45 of course.
