that in bold sums it up perfectly

if the 7d kit is with the 24-105 f4 then get it, you wont be dissapointed, yeah you will want better lenses and a body later on, but that will never end - there are so many lenses on my wishlist
no1 i know started with such a good kit

I will see what lens it is.

Not sure but either way its a good camera for what I want to start with?

if its not the 24-105 f4 lens in the kit, then its prob not worth getting most likely the 18-135

not sure where about you are but i have used these guys before and they were really good, anyway its more to just give u an idea of the packages
http://www.rythercamera.com/catalog/product_info.php?products%5Fid=31735
they didnt hav a 7d with 24-70 f2.8 listed - would recommed this
http://www.rythercamera.com/catalog/product_info.php?products%5Fid=31518
http://www.rythercamera.com/catalog/product_info.php?products%5Fid=31680 - and this

below the 7d would be the 60d

@jayandnix

links dont work

to add:
Rather than the 60D get the D7000 from Nikon (if you consider the "lower" camera).

thats why: get a cheaper one, you will be totally fine either way. since none of these cameras will satisfy you without practice and lenses.
Once you figure out what you dont like about it, think about the camera that solves the problem and save for THIS EXACT CAMERA you are going to buy after this one.
Spend 2500 on lenses, you will not regret it, since these, you wount have to exchange anytime soon. I have a nikon lens that is about 20 years old, still works like a charm and takes iamges like the new ones! maybe a little softness here and there, but overall, you will not notice the next 10 years or so! it`s not like lenses get replaced very often....

edit:
all of these lenses SUCK ._.
Canon 28-135mm IS USM EF Lens <- sucks.
Canon 18-200mm IS EF-S Lens <- sucks.
and the Canon 18-55 IS EF-Lens <- sucks.

Look for ones with a red ring and an L in their name.

Well starting off I want 1 lens and the body.

I won't be doing much shooting at first but I want to be able to record videos well and shoot pics for the time being.

Will be a few months before I save up for another lens.

What is a good one from that site to check out

I see a few 60Ds and stuff

damn dunno why the links dont work like that
i am with phil those lenses are bad
just search for:
7d with either the 24-105 or 24-70
d7000 24-70

both were under $3k
if you want to test them or make sure you will be happy with your choice, rent them for a weekend - there are loads of gear rental places in the US

in that case go with a 650D or 5200D and a Tamron 17-50 2.8 DC II
you can do video, shoot, figure out what you like and you save 2000$ to spend on awesome once you know what you want.

D7 and 24-105 / 24-70 is definitly overpriced than for your needs.
I wouldnt even consider buying sth like 60D / 7D / D7000 if i wasnt tottally in and know what i am doing.

650D and 5200D are still really remarkable cameras. And much smaller / light so you take it with you more easily, that might also be good in the beginning.
The Tamron is a bargain for it having AWESOME quality, better than the kit lens and the 18-55 2.8 from canon.

I shoot photography and know what I am doing, I just don't know too much about cameras right now, but thats why I want a really good camera to learn on.
I just don't wanna spend more than 1,500-2,000 bucks on it at first.

I would be fine with a normal lens and body for now, or a mid to high lens and a good body.

Whatever I can afford

Get a 650D and a 17-50 2.8 DC II
or
Nikon 5200D with the same lens.

No Kidding, even this"small" dslr has SUPERB image Qaulity and can do everything you like.
It`s not about what you can afford anymore, it`s about what you are saying.

You want sth that can do everything you like, - well, my little S100 can do whatever you suggest for 400$ less. If you dont wanna spend more than 1500, than you certently dont need to spend more than 1000$.
Save the money, get whatever you want once you figured out what you want.

We`re talking of dslrs here not point and shoots, thats all in all a whole different level in quality / handling and options.

Finally:
I am think i wrote enough and wount comment anymore, it`s pointless to persuade you do buy sth you dont want, so why dont you just buy the 7D with the Kit lens and be happy with it?
You asked us for our opinion, you have it. In this thread are so many information, even.. the Image Quality and Iso control of the 7D and D650 / 5200D... and lots of other information about
sensor size / crop sensor... ergonomics.. which lenses are considered good (L-Lenses with red ring)...read all over it and decide for yourself.

It`s your first dslr? you dont need a pro body. it`s pointless if you dont use it. Rather get sth small and learn photography the hard way. Pictures wount get better anyway without training. it`s not the body. it`s you.
better buy a tripod with the money you saved, or gradient filters, or an other sd card, or lightroom... there is so much stuff to spend money on.
