But if you have one person dictate what a theme means, then you limit that theme.

From what I've seen, the less you limit a theme, the more diverse the set of images you get.

Perhaps a solution to your problem is a statement of intent from those who take the photos,
explaining their guiding principles and how THEY feel their approach fits the theme.

To me, that's what really matters.

Well clearly red is a more objective theme.

Yet still, I could take a picture representing the emotional value of "redness" in
black and white.

There's always a non-obvious possibility with any theme you choose.

Your eyes/ brain are smarter than you. If you look at a black picture long enough thinking it is red, eventually it will be red. True story.

some photos are really good, some, i think, do not see them fit the theme. For me it is a pleasure to partecipate to this contest... and even if I do not write often in this forum I read a lot. :D
