sensor size vs iq vs af. sensor size > iq > af. 5d has double win

Well.. what if the shot relies on good AF to be taken? For example a low flying Jet passing by at close to Mach1 (700mph).

it needs to fly really low so that any dslr could catch speed of mach1 since it depends on how high the object is(due to thicker air close to ground), like over half inside the ground and i dont think you want to be near when that happens and take pictures. mach1 @ 700mph is like at 30000 feet and i doubt you will ever get a lens with enough focal lenght for that. i dont think you will want to be too near a jet that flies 700mph anyway, and if its further away, you wont need that much of an af to shoot it, set the lens on f/5.6-9(depending on focal length), camera to manual focus and further side of hyperfocal near infinity and you are good to go

:P

The 5d MK II's AF is only bad if you are bad at AF in the first place :\

That don't make sense lol. Auto focus is auto-focus. I mean seriously.. come on, if a 10 year old Canon 1v has better AF, i don't think the 5DII has any excuses.

My theory The fact is that Canon crippled the 5DII so pros have a reason to get the 1Ds series camera.

If AF didn't require skill, the camera would take pictures by itself.

Check your 5DII's AF system with Canon. You may have a defective version. I've tried the 7D, 1D, and plenty of Nikons to know that while the 5d MK II doesn't have the best AF, it's not that bad.

5d mkII has the same system than 5d mkI, so they didnt cripple it in any way, its just an old semi pro af system. 1d is pro series, unlike 5d, so its no wonder that 1d has better af system. 7d needed a new af system so that it would have even a slight difference to xxd series, other than the body of camera.

do you have af assist points on? this will help the af in low light, but it can also focus slightly in the wrong spot. do you know what sort of surface/contrast differences/colors to look for when focusing in low light? focusing on a wrong spot will cause any cameras af not to work correctly if the light isnt optimum.

i could have bought 5d mkII when i bought my 1d(they were the same price, 5d new ofc and 1d used) or i could trade my 1d for one now, but i prefer 1.3 crop, atleast for now.
