You don't need more talent in film than you do in digital. You can shoot quality in digital. I do have to agree that film is a little fun but heavily impractical.

Depends what you're trying to shoot.

Not really. It really does depend on what you're trying to shoot.
A landscape photographer who wants to be able to print very large images isn't going to use a DSLR or bother dragging a medium format with digital back (and laptop, and tethers etc) up into a park, he'll just go hike with a 4x5 or 8x10 camera.

In general, meaning to combine all of the things digital > and the things film > and average them out to find that they're awfully similar.

I don't really agree, and photography isn't the kind of business or hobby where "in general" is really applicable.
Digital quite rightly dominates the photojournalism market, but it's not quite so clear cut in other areas of the market. And then consider that professionals are more than willing to spend thousands of dollars on new cameras and lenses that only have a small benefit on their work, that wouldn't happen if "in general" applied.

I think it takes a lot more skill to shoot film than digital.

My 2 cents :P

From what I've seen on the fine art level it is predominantly film. I live in Houston and there are quite a few galleries around and is the location of Fotofest. In my opinion film will always have a place in the world of photography, there may be 200 MP cameras but there is always that something about 8x10 negatives that will make it look different.

Finished shooting that roll that was already in my camera when I dug it out. Maybe I will have a few shots from it uploaded by later tonight.
