50mm isn't really 50mm on a crop body camera

i took a few of my first real pictures last night
it was senior night at wrestling
i'll post up a few pictures later


but what i realized i need is a flash (recommendations)
and some of the pictures were blurry, do i need a faster lens than my 18-55mm?
i was sitting beside my friends dad who shoots for the local paper and he uses a d3s >.< so i felt kinda dumb anyway, because he had a crazy lens and flash hahahaa.

and i was looking on the nikon site, and they dont have prices for any lenses or anything
so i have to drive like 100 miles away to buy them or shop somewhere else online

the apparent focal length isn't 50mm, but the focal length still is the same.
However, if the camera has a 1,5x crop factor the camera will appear to have 75mm focal length.
