We'd have to know what kind of budget you're on, and what you're looking for in a camera, what kind of photos you want to take, etc.

Well, I don't mean to steal the other user's thread....
Butsince we are already on the subject...... ;)

I like macro pictures, insects, spiders, flowers...
I want to be able to take great people pictures (mainly my kids).
I want to have a 200 mm+ (would love 300 mm +) for wildlife...
And I like to take landscape, sunsets, nice sceneries... this is something lacking with my point and shoot..

This is all I like and want to use a camera for.
I post mostly macro shots in here because this is what my camera does best.

I want a high resolution camera so I can do huge enlargements of my pictures with great quality.
And I want something that I don't need 3 years of university to use......

Budget: none for now, but maybe I try to save 900 - 1100 $ ...

the pros and cons are similar.

for every camera model that nikon/canon has, the other has an alternative.
every time one comes out with a new and better camera, the other brand will do the same.

its just what you prefer.

Not entirely true, newer Nikon's perform much better at high ISO's than Canon's.

i looked at a few camera's today
any1 have opinions on the sony range?
on the "more expensive" 1s the build quality looks good, but they just dont feel right to me and at high iso speeds the pics are not too good

i am still stuck between
nikon D5000, D60 with a decent additional lense
canon 500D or 450D with a 18-200mm lense

How about being realistic?

At topic, it is similar to religion. But I would buy the 1000D or 450D, and buy a good lens for it.

yeah, a 5D II is rediculous
thanks for your input :D
i dont like the feel of the 1000D, but am really considering the 450D or D60 with a couple decent lenses

For the question which (Canon/ Nikon) (450D/ D5000/ D90 etc.) you should take go to a shop and feel them with your own hands.. if you just dont feel comfortable with it you wont shoot many photos anyway.. + I would suggest to buy it in a shop near you, even if you have to pay +30$ you get way better service (cleaning etc.)
