ok heres what Antichrist was saying:
With the Nikon D60 you have a very limited choice of lens if you want the lens and camera to Focus for you (you want this a lot)
With the Canon camera's you've been recommended they are fully compatable with over 100 Lenses of all shapes sizes and prices and you will not need to worry about focusing because the camera takes care of this very well.
The nikon D80 is about $900 (with a nikon lens)
The canon equivelent, the XSI is <$700 (with a canon lens)
They are really similar cameras and if i had a choice between the two id get the latter.
But im with Antichrist- on this one:
Get a used Canon 40D or if you want a new camera get a 400D (XTI) or a 450D (XSI). <-- Only get an XSI if it is a similar price to the XTI.
Like I said, I can not find a 400D.
Every site I've checked doesn't have them or says they're "discontinued".
If anyone can help me find a site that has a 400D [preferably one that offers warranty] please let me know because that's the camera I was orignally wanting to buy.
Btw, the guy showed me some pictures of landscapes/nature from Canon and Nikon's and the Nikon's tended to be a little better, but the Canon's action shots were better than the Nikon's.
Is this true for all Canon's/Nikon's or was it just the camera that it was taken with?

hey. I was in your shoes about three weeks ago. after about two weeks of reserch I had narrowed it down to the XSi or the XS.
I have had my XSi for about two weeks and I LOVE it. I have no bad things to say about it. If you do but it you will NOT be dissapointed I swear. The only thing I'm having trouble with is shooting sports in low light - but that is only because I don't have a good enough lense. I know it must be really hard waiting for the price drop on the 500D - personally unless it was a significant drop I would probably not buy the 500D, but that is just me. There has never been a time where I've wished that my DSLR could take video - because 99% of the time I know when I want to be taking a video vs taking a picture.
No matter what you do though - don't cheap out. I put some extra hours to get the XSi over the XS and I'm glad I did. The saying "you get what you pay for" is 100% true when it comes to photography.
If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to answer them

Aren't XSi's like $850 though? :\
