That's why you get bigger sensors, also, th more MP's packed in the camera, the more interpolation happens, which can have a negative impact on image quality.

you proberbly could, i think the reason why people buy the big MP cameras is so they can use heavily cropped photos to print big sizes

The exact same thing could said about eos 50D I am sure I would have bought it instead of 40D if it had around 10-12Mpixel

Also why the newest high MP Nikon sucks.

MP is just basically size you can print

or the extent to which you can crop

Not really though :\

To me it's alot more than just bigger prints:

More room for eventual crop.
Higher Mp files take postprocessing much better and in a much less destructive way.
Clients are happier with bigger files (yeah I know...lol).

But yeah, 6Mp is pretty much more than enough for the average user.
My 2nd point to me is VERY important though.

I hadn't thought about the postprocessing part, but that makes sense.
