If you have 2 subjects just focus on one, and use as small a aperture as required to get them both in focus.
Dont worry i wont break it. it seems to be pretty tough anyway ive dropped it from 5 foot a couple of times and all its killed are a few pixels on the lcd which are now dead

You have actually managed to drop your camera from 5ft??? and messed up the LCD?? OMG lmao! you really should be more careful with your camera. I think the worst thing I have done with my current 40D is when I accidentally hit the front part of the lens onto a door lol and being outside in -30 for like a half of an hour and made the LCDs acting all weird.
