If I were to go with a canon what would be a good lens length to look for?

I disagree, unless you want to compromise quality for a bit of cash. sad.gif

Buying a printer you will get MUCH higher quality then going and getting them done someplace.
You save money in the long run by printing from home.

The cost of gas to drive to the place, then back. Then driving back there to pick them up and back home cost more than the actual prints.
Then when you get home to see the shitty quality you are disappointed.

And they're a lot cheaper than shop based printers, and some provide excellent colour correcting and editting services before they print your photos/work/whatever.

Just make sure your screen's calibrate so you're not left frustrated when the print doesn't match the image on the screen. wink.gif

allso be sure you got same icc profile than the shop has. Good internet print services lets you download theyr icc profile, so you should get about what you want.

I print at a shop (I often print, and big ones too like 20"ish by 30"ish) and they are gorgeous, cheap too.
For a 20x30" I pay 3 euros.

Not bad in my opinion.

I don't even own a printer...

well if he spends a lot on extremely good gear then there is no point spending loads on a printer which would be good enough to match the gear tongue.gif

the kind of printers they use in shops cost like hell, i bet close to 10k €, so no wonder some people dont want to pay so much for good quality prints
