gz, now go learn how to use the camera on manual. Cool thing about nikons is that you can get old manual lenses for really cheap price, but manual lenses arent for everybody and you need to know how the camera works before your able to use one.

Allso go get lightroom or photoshop and shoot raw(+jpg for previewing photos), i made a quick guide on raw edits and its somewhere in the first pages of this forum if your intrested.

I can tell you the basics on how to use the manual setting on camera if you want, but not doing that now.

Hehe thanks! smile.gif I'm actually already doing all of that tongue.gif Even the Manual focus doensn't seem to shabby when you aren't in need of af to capture something really fast.

Oh yea. lol Kinda forgot that your dad has a load of older Nikon lenses haha I guess I am becoming senile due to the boredom :S
Well I have never owned or looked at those Nikon lenses but I assume the kit lens you have is one of the mid-range lenses and should be a lot better than those 18-55mm kit lenses that comes with entry level cameras like D40 or D60. Does your dad have a good tripod too? biggrin.gif course I am sure you will need one if you want to take photos in low light or night. You know how lucky you are who has a father who is in to photography so you don't have to spend 564465465 dollars buying accessories for your camera tongue.gif

Ah, sorry for not replying lol. Maybe you're going senile but I'm apparently going blind! Yeah, it seems really decent actually. It's 18-135mm. One thing I don't understand though is that I tried one of my dads wide angles on it and it's actually less wide angled than the kit lens o.o I got some explanation from my dad that it had to do with the... "brädvids punkt" or something but didn't really understand it xD Something that the sensor wasn't good enough or two good or something and you had to multiply and... eh, just a confusing answer xD I'll try the others soon though tongue.gif Gonna stick to the kit one and get used to it first ;] And yeah, he's got a tripod ^^ I also got a camera bag with the D80 for xmas so I'm set tongue.gif

haha It's ok I am kinda used to people never replying my posts tongue.gif.
Well the lenses your dad are using are for 35 mm full frame film cameras and your's has a 1.5x FOV (Field of view) crop sensor which means the field of view is 1.5 times smaller than for a film or full frame digital slrs like Nikon D700, D3 or Canon EOS 5 and EOS 1Ds. So the 18-135 mm is actually 27-202mm on your camera so if you need a really wide lens you should get something like the Sigma 10-20mm, the one Chantal7 bought lol. I learned most of the stuff about cameras and photography by reading tutorials and reviews in English so I don't know what
"brädvids punkt" means. tongue.gif and I think you should read some of those millions of tutorials and reviews you can find on the internet too. I actually made a topic about those: Useful Links. lol you are so lucky you know I mean not only you got a nice camera but you also got a bag tongue.gif Well I hope you will be taking lots of pictures from now on and post them here tongue.gif

I know! I did too lol that's why it's confusing when my friends & family talk photo-stuff with me in Swedish lol. Since it's christmas and all my sister's boyfriend has been here for a few days and he's also just taken up photography (using a D60) so he's been showing me all these things. Unfortunately, I've hardly taken anything in due to the such different names of things etc lols. Yeah, I've been doing that tongue.gif Downloaded a lot of different photography e-books etc ^^ thanks heart.gif

edit: blargh! Hope you can understand these sentences xD They're pretty run-on considering I'm dead tired and haven't had a healthy dosage of sleep for almost a week :C

haha well it's ok I do that too sometimes when I am tired and what you posted aren't that hard to understand. My English isn't that good either and I am still learning at least you don't seem to use whole a lot of Svenelska or Swenglish biggrin.gif Personally I think a combination of reading tutorials and practicing is a faster and easier way to learn more about photography and I have only read like a handful of tutorials and then just went out and took whole a lot of pictures. I guess I am just too impatient to sit there and read stuff for hours biggrin.gif
