1- Please learn to re-size your image.

2- Read up on some compositional tips. 9 out of 10 times, centering the subject (in this case the dog) is never really appealing from a compositional standpoint.
Link to some reading- http://www.digital-photography-school.com/four-rules-of-photographic-composition

3- If you're trying to freeze action, try using a higher shutter speed by
a- Increasing the ISO
b- Opening up the aperture (smaller the number, the bigger the aperture.. aka faster)

There are a few ways to keep the moving subject sharp.. well increasing the shutter speed is obviously one of them. If for some odd reason you can't get a high enough shutter speed, panning is another great technique but surely takes practice, it does add an interesting background however.
I was out awhile ago practicing panning, excuse the chopped off wheel.. composition wasn't my top priority that day. Still not a "sharp" image but it was decent for how close i was standing and how fast he zoomed by.

Example of panning shot.

Overall, i'm going have to give you a 2/10 for the image.

Oh god I got so mad at myself last time I tried this technique. It's REALLY hard to get it sharp. You did a pretty good job compared to my results :P

Edit: oh did you not make it?

Its really not that hard to get sharp. Once you get a little practice at it, it should come fairly easily. I have to shoot like this for the horse races...

.. A horse race is very much different from what I'm talking about. A horse race is planned: You know when it will start, where they will go, and at what speed.

When you are trying to shoot a random car at a busy road, it will increase speed, take a turn or come closer.

It's quite challenging indeed at first, but it gets easier with practice.

You can never know what a horse will do. You can know what the horse was supposed to do is all.

Since everyone likes panning, perhaps we ought to make this the subject for the next contest :)

Why would we do something that stupid...? We have three votes already for boudoir. ^^ Just sayin...

Even though we stalk around a predominately male sub-forum, we must consider that boudoir as a subject would not be too interesting for the women we are lucky to have among us.
